was down in the sun yesterday at port beach in freo fantastic day nice cross shore breeze blowing smooth as and was tinking iv never seen anyone sail there is there a reason for this i see people sailing down a little at what i suspect is laightion the aera im refering to is up near the groine that go's around to north mole.
i cant see a reason thats all may be im missing somthing![]()
Your missing the by-law that says no surfboards, windsurfers, kites etc further south than the dog beach end (sometimes known as Cables beach)
Its usually only enforced in summer when there are swimmers populating the beaches as Leighton and Port.
Thanks that would be it then its odd then if you go down any given summer or winter morning the place is packed with surfboards and the like as you say how well is it inforced![]()
I've been down there a couple of times - launched from Leighton and sailed upwind to the beach restaurant (think it is called Salt). Upwind near the restaurant and further south it seems that the wind is very inconsistent in southerly directions. Guess this could be due to the north mole...
Anyhoo - having sailed a lot on the river I find that is a lot more fun and challanging doing some down wind sailing on the ocean..
yha i thought about the wind shadow of the groin too as like you i mostly sail the river too it was just a thought thats all may be some day ill give it a go![]()
raggy -> i find that the wind is more consistent on the ocen then on the river. Also it is good practice for the Ledge to Lano...
When there are no waves forecasted for weekends I try and go on my slalom gear from Leighton.
