Hello slalom sailors.
Patrik, Steve's Surf Shed and SBYC are welcoming racing back next season and rumor has it we're invited to the SBYC Aust. Day Regatta.
I've penciled in some dates that align with my work roster, but if anyone is keen to run an event please feel free to PM me.
I've had a few unofficial offers to help marshal and keep score so hopefully I can get on the water a bit more

Prelim Dates:
Saturdays
Nov 12
Dec 3, 24
Feb 4, 25
Mar 18.

I'm on hols for Jan so can't commit to any racing so if someone wants to organise racing pre or post LOC or any Saturday for that matter I can help.
Isaac is talking up Cervantes as a possible National/State title location. Maybe this can coincide with the Gero crew for an away round.
It's a beautiful spot to sail at so hopefully we can get some traction with that.
Dec 3rd could possibly include the Green Head round.
There'll be some amendments to the scoring next year. Each race for each heat will score points so every race will count.
Sailors will still be "seeded" as the racing goes on to ensure close racing.
It was great seeing almost 50 sailors (48) on the list last year. Lets see if we can't get more next season.
5 Months to go
Bring it on.

If you've ever been wondering what the racing's like but didn't think it possible to enter because you riding the wrong gear - Don't fret we're thinking of you.
We're going to try a Freeride/Wave board / No-Cam-Sails division this year at the first Round on November 12.
So come on down and give it a go. Even if it's only for bragging rights over your mates.

I'm having a lot of issues getting dates booked.
At the moment the original dates all conflict with other regattas or events.
The 2 events i have penciled in for now are:

Greenhead 3-4 Dec
Safety Bay 18 Mar.

Prelim Dates: Saturdays Nov 12, Feb 4, Feb 25 are no good.

I can't host on any other dates due to work commitments
Here is a list of available days to run an event at safety bay.

Saturdays available are; 5th Nov, 19th Nov, 10th Dec, 21st Jan, 18th Feb, 11th March, 25th March, 8th April,

If anyone wants to step up to the plate and run a race day PM or call me and i'll help out as much as i can.
It really is quite easy. SBYC do a lot of the hard work and WWA organise the finances
Lets keep the safety bay racing alive this season.

HI Janette

Can we add any of these as a back up dates?
10th Dec, 21st Jan, 18th Feb, 11th March, 25th March, 8th April,

Ideally we would like to run 5 rounds in total and would be great to get some racing done in December and January (post LOC)

As Premo says - Help is always good.
Premo and Steve have dug in deep to help out this year with a few event dates being changed, so anyone who can assist in running a day or help setting up or scoring etc... would be greatly appreciated.

So the dates are locked and loaded for more slalom.
Patrik Boards and Steve's Surf Shed are back on the sponsor train for what's going to be a great season of fast downwind racing.

Nov 19 - SBYC
Dec 03 - Green Head
Dec 10 - SBYC
Jan 21 - SBYC
Feb 04 - SBYC
Mar 18 - SBYC

As for divisions, the scoring system auto seeds everyone to ensure close, competitive racing all day.
There was a strong response to the proposed Freeride division i.e. no cams, no race board, race what you have division.
Hopefully we can fit this into the slalom draw so everyone can get a taste of racing but not be left out the back of the fleet all day.
Remember, if you can assist on any of the days, flick me a PM and we'll get you familiarized with the format.

Kato, i'll need to check the fine print but i think as you are a member of WV you are covered under AWA to compete in these events.
Entry into one event is $10 via the WWA Website or $20 on the beach.

[Edit]
Just checked with the Pres.
Membership of an AWA affiliated club or state is enough.

No cams.
Trust me when I say the racing is very even all day.
Most days the no cam Sailors are very competitive.
No cams no slalom boards is designed for entry level racing.
If you've got cammed sails and a freerace board you'll still find the competition great.

Thanks for that, I'll see if it all pans out and I can get there in time or LG delays me and I end up at Shark Bay instead

Just wondering where we can register for this?

Also, i have one sail that has two cams at 6.7m and one that has no cams at 7.5m. Does it depend which one i use on the day as to which division i would race in?

Cheers
:)

The no cams/ride what you have division is there as an entry point into racing so No one is getting intimidated by the full on slalom gear.
The racing seeds itself so all your races should be competitive.
You'll be suprised at how competitive free ride gear is once the winds up
I'd suggest coming down having a go in the no cams division and then step up into the racing fleets.

Register at the WWA Website

Yeah i was only really interested in racing the no cams/freeride division, but was wondering if that meant i couldnt use my two cam freeride sail. Also, do i have to be a member of WWA to race?

:)
