My wife's sister's friend works at Royal Perth Emergency and she mentioned that on the weekend a windsurfer came in with a snapped ankle.
Does anyone know what happened to the poor fellow?

Hi Hooksey it wasn't me at Royal Perth.
I was at Murdock, but yes as described by Ben it is a tad ugly![]()
Visited Orthopedic this afternoon. more checks and by the looks of it, his skills at rebuild, wont require me getting any more work done on the table![]()
Thank goodness, I wasn't too flash about having to go through that operation a second time![]()
But wasn't all good news, as its going to be a good 12-18 months for rehab to get it back to original
I still cant believe I did so much damage with such a pissy dismount
Feel sorry for whoever it was if he has similar type break.![]()
Mineral
Oh and normally I say something like this
@$^%^%$#^&&^*&^&(*(()_*&$ !!!!!!!!!! when I hurt myself
But I will just think it this time![]()
Mineral,
You poor bastard - I feel for you. I know what it's like being laid up for a long period of time and not being able to do the thing you love (and I gather windsurfing is out also
). Good to hear that first round surgery was a success as it does seem to hurt a hell of a lot more the second time around. All the best and hope you get sailing again alot sooner than expected.
that's a bugger mineral. sorry to hear your off the water.
i was thinking you could enter the freestyle comp. just cary some gear across the carpark. ![]()

Hope you get thru it without too much grief Mineral. Watch the weight while you spend the next 2 months on the couch eating. At least these days it is often possible to work at home on the computer and the internet can kill heaps of time.
Make sure you do just as the rehab guys suggest and you should be back in the water in no time. It will really help with flexibility if you do the movement exercises perfectly and don't slack off. Try also to get into the pool as soon as the plaster comes off for weight bearing practise.
Having broken the tibia, fibia and spiralled the angle into bits and having a mighty plate still holdong everything together, I know how you must be feeling. Luckily I had a kitesurfer surgeon (kiters are good for something after all) who made sure they put it all back together again without fusing the joints.
I was back on a board 8 months later.
The guy at scarbs catapulted over whitewater still hooked in and front foot still in the strap. Poor bugger had to wait 40 minutes for the ambos to arrive, lying on the sand the whole time. The clubbies looked after him though.
Good luck with the recovery to both sailors.
Just seen this thread Mineral, horrified to hear about such a serious injury, I wish you the speediest of recoveries.
