The bottom pic looks like sailors are at Peli Point with SOPYC in the background.

lots of rip curl sails, bombora sails, chest harnesses and windrush rags as well..
i would suggest the top pic is a couple if years younger than the bottom one as well?

OMG, what ugly sails they were back then! Don't modern sails look soooooo much better on the water?

I'm fairly certain that the guy in the top photo on the right is David Hutchinson (or similar surname). Used to be part of the regular Pelican Point crowd who I used to hang out with. He went on to become a commercial pilot I think.

I'm possibly in the lower photograph. I did have one of the dark blue and pink vertically stripped Bombora sails (with red logo). There are two of them in the photo (far left, and centre having just crashed). I must be the one on the far left sailing well ;-)
The board I had at the time was a Bombora New Toy.

David Hutchison perhaps? think my old man was mates with him..

Unfortunately many of the modern sails are predominantly clear and invisible fro the beach, which has possibly contributed to the lack of interest from onlookers.

Thankfully thats changing again now and until the other brands catch up with their colourways, red is the dominant colour out there now...used to be the Mirror dinghy fleet out of Royal Perth was the sea of red back then!

Back when the gear was rubbish
The fun factor was high
the smiles as wide and the harness lines
and the whinge factor was nil
talk on the beach was all about the stoke.

Awesome days, but I still prefer todays excellent gear.

Ha! It's all relative...I remember drooling over all that new gear and scrimping and saving to get it!

What's so great about those days?

Windsurfers everywhere and not a kite to be seen

Whoops, that is David Hammersly in the right of the top photo (not Hutchinson).

Took a while for 43 yo brain cells to kick into gear....
