My new gear has just arrived. A red Starboard Carve 131, mast 460 45% graphite and 7.8m sail and boom, extensions etc
I can not wait to try it out.
As predicted as soon as my gear arrived the sea breeze dropped.
Thursday afternoon looks like a goer approx 4.30 at Melville waters.
People always talk about down haul.
How do I know if I have enough down haul. What do I set the extension to. Is it trial and error????
I am hoping the 7.8 will carry my incredible muscular body (Fat belly) through the troughs.
Hoping for a good season and many sessions after work.
downhaul to recommended spec ![]()
but you will see some extensions start at about 4cm, there is no way you will ever pull it down far enough that pulleys touch, so I just add 4cm (Chinook extension)
You will get enough for 7.8 and 131L before Thurs I reckon ![]()
I was playing with the sail today and found the luff was 490 so I set the extention to 30cm. I was almost able to pull it to the pulley. You are right Mark I need to add another 4cm.
Unfortunately I was busy at work today and can not get away til late on Wednesday. Thursday will have to be the go.
It reached 20knots today at Melville according to some friends who got out on the water. Lucky bast@#$
