G'day guys its on again. Koombana Bay Sailing Club are welcoming us with open arms to enter the March long weekend Regatta.
Through discussions with the race committee we have decided to run our class on a shorter (with more laps) style course to keep the racing tighter and allow us slow coaches to have a chance to keep up with Big Daz and the front runners.
So who's keen. The plan is for
2 races on Saturday (2pm start)
2 races on Sunday
Cock of Koombanna on the Monday (am start) (Snides the odds on favourite)![]()
Its easy al l you have to do is how up, register approx. $30 fee for the weekend and get to the start line. Its all laid on.
I will be awarding drink tickets to anyone that show up and has a go (unless you humble me on the race course
)
Pleas let me know if are attending.
Will Big Daz be able to defend his unofficial State Formula Crown for the third year running or will Claude runaway with the win. Perhaps Mr Langer will come out of retirement or Snides effort will match how good/fast he says he is. All will unfold out on the perfect flat water race track that is Koombanan Bay.
Come down and join in. It heaps of fun and besides I want some fellow sailors to race against at the back of the fleet!!![]()
I'm all set with a Mistral 130sumthin(might need an extension to the 38cm CLockwood) and might need to borrow a 8.7m< tight leeched sail to make(half of) the course - I'm in!
What is the dates? ( for the Kiwi)
The weekend after this
Thus us thu weekund
i have a spare formula board. if anybody wants to use it.
also a spare 11 meter severne reflex but dont have another boom and mast.
Is this suitable for a newbie? I have never raced before and is just an intermediate flat water sailor.
I assume a formula board is required or can one enter with slalom gear?
Is there any recommended camping / budget accomodation options nearby? Anything else to do over the weekend?

Grumpy big Slalom gear will be fine or hit up Ratz to borrow his gear. The racing is for fun (not sheep stations) so if you can sail up/downwind, water start and gybe you will have a ball. You will need to wear a life jacket though.
I'm there
Hope we get some good racing
Couldn't help notice daz didn't do nats this year, he might be as rusty as the rest of us
Trying to organise things at the moment so that i can make.
I think practice is over rated anyway.
The only time i have touched the formula stuff in 12 months was the carnac race.
I have seen you have been out training on your new sails Sean. :)
Hope i can get there. Always a fun weekend.
Thanks Bender
Well Guys after a fantastic round of downwind slalom lets build on that momentum and do some course racing This weekend.

Ben, I am out as well![]()
Blessing realy as van park accommodation near on zero when I checked two weeks back. Only place left at the time was at Myalup from what I could get.
Fortunately have a mate down there with lots of room. But stuck Perth and cant make it![]()
So Ben you would have been able to look back and think, well least I am not stone motherless
But now
, looks like you are on ya patma
Ok guys the forecast is holding with wind strengths good that even slalom kit will be competitive. I need to know final numbers ASAP. You can race just one day if you want. Please post here if you are coming?
I'm there! Going to race the sup if it's like last year!
Have you seen the forcast you can sail your sup and I'll sail my 70ltr slalom board
Nah will be good to get some high wind formula racing![]()
How'd it go?
If you guys are still keen for more racing give this a crack...

Dunno what it's doing in the SA kitesurfing section?
I've done the race a bunch of time on cats, and it was tough going in a blow. It would be an epic mission on a Formula board
Wish I was in WA, I'd definitely have a crack. ![]()
Great weekend
Huge thanks to bender for getting something together and a big thanks to the koombana bay sailing club for being so accommodating
We got 5 races in, including the dash for cash monday morning and the first race on Saturday in no wind for those with a little too much enthusiasm and a teaspoon of stupidity
All races were close and fiercely contested with a respectable fleet of 9 in some of the races
The lead for the series was close and ever changing for the duration of the regatta with claude, darryl and myself fighting it out all the while trying to stay in front of the rest of what was a very competitive fleet which included some very impressive sailing and results from rowan and shane on their slalom gear just to prove there's no reason anyone else couldn't come down and have fun
We got some strange weather, certainly there was wind on our coarse for 4 races however 3 of them were fresh easterlies and proved to be very technical and challenging which made for interesting racing
All up a great weekend enjoyed by all (might have been a tad expensive for snides)
Looking forward to it next year but I think the general concensus was more practice and racing is required and desired
Hopefully we can arrange something similar at another time of year aswell![]()
