Hi
i have just moved to Perth (north side) and am looking for some easy accessible/forgiving wave sailing. I am out of practice but have prreviously sailed waves (badly !) and am keen to get back into it gently. Lancelin great but a bit far for anything other than weekends, just wondering if there is a local spot that people can recommend as i need a local location (north side) that is more challenging than Pinnaroo.
I gather scarborough can be good but also hear a lot of people are breaking kit there, any tips to avoid this or do i try somewhere else like cottesloe or mettams
many thanks
Max
Dutch Inn (Cott) would be the easiest as it is a reef break with no shorey, but not too many wavesailing days in the next few months with the onshore cold fronts.
Try lake dutch inn for a season.
Buy new equipment with warranty, come down to scarborough.
Use a bigger sail than you would normally use and a floaty board will help. Use the back wash to help get out pump like crazy bear off down wind. If you go down in the break, don't try to water start and head out!!! as tempting as it may be! head back in and beach start again with the backwash.
If you live up the Pinnaroo end of town, try Mettams Pool. Its easier to get out than Dutch Inn, and it doesn't have the stupid 'double wave' thing that Dutchies has on small days.
thanks for all the help, i will head for Mettams - when the wind appears next season (seems a long way off !!). I will probaley also give dutchies a try on the way home from work as well
I gather we can expect some frontal systems through the winter, but am asuming that resticts sailing to wither the river or pinnaroo
thanks again to all the help
