Lobster Shack Cervantes Windsurf Challenge
If this is your first time to Cervantes - Come prepared for an unfathomable amount of water time and fun! Plus all your safety gear and do lots of equipment checks
In the ever expansive blue shallow and turquoise bay that sits between Thirsty point and Cervantes island lies a windsurfers paradise. With onshore winds for safety, perfect water conditions to go fast and explore the area with fellow windsurfers. The slalom course is approximately 9km long with 4 gybe marks in flat water. The event is backed by consistent and strong sea breezes that bless this region of the coastline.
We will have exceptional safety cover this year so do not worry and just enjoy

This event is about fun, fun and more fun on and off the water!!!!!!

Registration and the finish line will be at Thirsty Point. The start will be upwind across the bay so you need to be able to sail up and downwind all day. The facilities at Thirsty Point limited as it the parking, so please car pool so you don't need to park halfway back into town. While the beach east of the start line can be accessed, you will still need to register, sign on and sign off at the Thirsty Point.
We don't have approval from running the event off the beach line the start line so please don't park there.

To ensure you have a great day you will need to bring:
Windsurfing equipment and spares - Watch the forecast, you might need to bring very small gear as this part of the world gets real windy
Water, lunch, snacks - there is not shop at the beach or facilities to refill water bottles
Sunscreen, big hat and sun protection clothing
Lifejacket, flares and appropriate safety equipment for the race.
We will not have spares you can borrow at the beach.
No Safety Equipment = No Race or Disqualification
Type 1 and inflatable PFDs are not acceptable

Strictly hardcore wave boards (generally 2 most wave orientated models in each brand)

Let the wave sailors go crazy !! extra points for forward loop over the finish line

Hi everyone

If you are attending the event this year we are looking for some help for a few jobs

See below:

JOB 1:

Pickup portable toilet from Jurien Bay Concrete and Earthworks on the Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, plus grab 2x green bins from the Jurien Bay shire depot shuts 3pm (can do this in one swoop)

JOB 2:

We need to find a trailer with cage to borrow as the WWA one is out of action at the moment and will not be fixed in time. Also towing if possible otherwise we can find someone who could tow it

Update to event and important information

At present the event should not be affected by the bushfires as there is an alternative route to Cervantes that should be safe to proceed in under 3 hrs from Perth via Brand hwy

Sailing instructions for event can be viewed in the link below
drive.google.com/file/d/1EUMjCatunnxa_5N_3VwtrqBRQ0_I4Mys/view?usp=sharing

The BBQ has been moved to the back of the Country Club where it is still BYO MEAT and also drinks are available from the bar where the golf course side is located. Starting from 6pm Friday night

Important points to bring up:

1. There is no minimum wind limit for the GPS competition. Foiling is included in overall GPS competition results
2. Everyone must wear a pfd type 2 lifejacket and have 2 orange smoke flares (in a dry condition/sealed plastic bag)
3. The event is based at Thirsty Point due to restrictions in the cost/logistics of getting toilets, bins and ability to monitor all sailors entering the sailing zone. We require all sailors to be based at Thirsty Point for your own safety
4. Sign on/Sign off sheets all based at Thirsty Point, you must sign on/sign off before entering the water
5. Make sure you check all equipment, ropes, tendons, masts, booms carefully before entering the water
6. GPS is available to any unit so long as you can upload to KA72

See below for GPS and Slalom Course area's

GPS has been modified to extend slightly further south than previous years

Are the roads open?
The Indian Ocean Drive and the Brand Hwy, both seem affected by the fires.

For any discrepancies in results please feel for the judges hectic job and mass finishes, poor/no sail numbers, wrong side of sail at finish, sail through the finish when not in the race or different numbers we do not have in our records etc.

Incredible effort for all the techno kids sailing the course with their large boards in decent seas and chop well done!!

Lobster Shack Cervantes Windsurf Challenge 2021 Event Video

Cervantes delivers for another year with world class windsurfing slalom conditions in 20-25 knot winds. The event is situated within an amazing turquoise lagoon off Thirsty Point. We set a record of 5 races on the last day which is equivalent to 3 Lancelin marathons in 1 day of the competition. Here you get rests , breaks, lunch, gear changes if sudden changes in wind strength, discards, lots of wind, relaxed vibes and atmosphere. This event is made by windsurfers for all levels of windsurfers. The premier event in Australia where you almost guaranteed to sail your heart out!

With 60 entrants to the event this was a huge success given the bushfires blocking most roads north of Perth the day prior, and covid affecting everyday life. We are very privileged and grateful during these times to be able to run the event in Western Australia. Our thoughts are with the rest of the world and hope this puts a smile on your face watching some cool windsurfing action. We hope you can come here one day see for yourself and have many returning international sailors make it back to this windsurfing heaven.

A massive round of applause to Matt Holder from Reflex Films Australia for one of the best windsurf event videos you will see! Doing it all with drones in the sky and full quiver of cameras on the beach in windy conditions!

Last but not least thanks to all the volunteers and the competitors chipping into help with all things to make the event happen! See all our awesome sponsors below who continue to support the event

Big thanks also to Water Patrol Australia and Jeanette and Keith Kinsey
