Hi all,
Planning a WA road trip over Chrimbo. Will have my 80lt wave board and 3 sails (4.5-5.7). Is this suitable for doing the Lancelin classic?.. or would you normally take much larger kit? Just want to get round the course, so not be competitive in any way (well competitive with my mate, not bothered about the rest of the fleet!)
Thanks, Wes
Hey Wesley, I'm also planning this with minimal kit. I'll have 3 boards and 4 sails ranging from 5.5 to 8.7. I'm 90-95kg so can get away with my 112lt Freerace and a larger option if its super light. I'll have a 90-95lt FreeRace tuned and ready for myself by then too.
If you are a lower weight and a good skill level you can thin down your gear and yes you could run your wave rigs.
You have great shops over here you can pick something comfy up last minute and they may even have a buy-back option you can do..try Steve's Surf Shed, Windsurfing Perth, Windforce, 2nd Wind..to mention a few..all those guys have first hand experience of the race and top guys to deal with!
Are you keen on the wave comp as well?
Cheers!
Hi Wesley,
Pending on forecast for 2014 LOC and your weight a 100l FSW with a 6.5-7 will usually do the job
The race is fantastic and really worth the trip. The coarse is really deep off the wind too so extra volume and sail help![]()
Hah back in the 90s i did the LOC on a 18 inch speed board (old fibreglass wright design) and a 5.4 4 cam sail . no way i could do that now with the extra 30 kg i have.
Hi
I've done it twice on an 80L and 5.7. It's fine as long as it's 20kts+. Any less and it's a real struggle - imagine bogging and pumping for 90minutes
Thanks for all the tips & responses! It sounds like a great event so will register & just hope the wind blows hard and consistent across the course. Guess if the forecast is not looking good a few days beforehand I could try and track down a suitable board. Wasn't planning on the wave comp Manoverboard.
Cheers!
