I was on a 4.5 sail broken clean in half above third batton and was just about trimming with half a sail on the way back in.
Been in the same wind further out and had to emergency detach.
Im not sure if getting airbourne in that wind is a good idea,
Thank god The importance of wearing a GAFF .....
And to the boaties if i was in that much trouble i would of detached my sail..;-S again....
didnt scare us...A big thankyou for the support of local boaters.. And the fambily who greeted us at the beech in 4wd and was asking if i need to phone anyone.
Glad your safe. after watching the Slalom at South Beach, can imagine it was a tad rough out there.

This step is problly ameture but controlling your kit in the air and landing is just another hurdle in the life long windsurfing apprentichip

Thanks for the graph, I was out in the sound fully lit and then some on 5.2 from about 3pm and having a ball. Just after 4pm thought that the wind had increased by about 5 knots and made the "broken gear or body" decision and headed for shore.
Bad luck but you just have to put it down to experience. Given the number of people not out there, goes to show that you're pushing the edge of the envelope.
