Hi all
I'm after any recommendations for an impact / flotation jacket to use windsurfing with a waist harness.
What do people use and recommend???
Thanks
Mike
A lot of the stores are now stocking windsurfing and sailing specific jackets. Check out yachting brands too as dinghy sailors using a trapeze harness need a similar jacket.
You need a type 2 jacket to be compliant with DOT open water reps.

Best one i've found is the neil pryde high hook. I use the term best very loosely. Its the best compromise because you can strap it (strangle it is a better way to put it) onto the waist harness So it can't ride up too often.
Others use the forward whip (yes, thats its name) without issue, As its got a higher cut to it. but my stick man physique doesn't have enough bulk to hold it down.
chris gaudets boating hardware in o'connor have the forward whip and Reg at windsurfing perth has the neil pryde high hook.

I use a Vaikobi VX Race one with both my waist and seat harnesses. It fits nice and snug, and has never caused any issue with obstructing the harness hook. It is certified 50N. If I go sailing without it now, I feel sort of naked.....
+1 for the NP its the only one I like for fit.
Only thing is when waterstarting it holds water under the vest and its sealed in by the top of the harness. Very annoying. DRAIN HOLES Neil, drain holes please.
Is there a combination vest available?
I prefer an impact vest, and yet, we are now forced to use a floatation one when more than 400m from the shore.
I believe the Forward WIP has better impact protection than the NP. I have the NP and it doesn't have any side protection, which is where the rib injuries tend to occur
Hi Guys. Looking at a PFD for long-distance sailing. A front pouch is a strong consideration for UHF and mobile storage.Neil Pryde High Hook looks great, for those who have tried one, does it become uncomfortable during long sailing sessions?
