Hi,
Im from Adelaide and having being just made redundant from my job in SA, am thinking about seizing this oppurtunity, and live out my dream to move to WA.
Because WA's such a large state, it would be nice to hear from someone there about whats a good location to move to.
Type of sailing locations I would like to be near are Wave sailing + bump and jump.
I am a fitter and turner by trade, can also weld, pnuematics, hydraulics knowledge, sheetmetal etc . So really the question is what would be an ideal central location that could accomodate my sailing needs and also is in demand for this type of work?
A very broad question I know, but you guys would be the best people to ask about this.
Any leads or even if anyone out there know of any good positions available atm would be much appreciated.

re Geraldton, are most jobs there Fly in, fly out type jobs to do with mining? Cheers
Geraldton is big enough to have onsite jobs you should not have to be FIFO and why would you want to be (miss 14days sailing straight? 
)
A 6 or 7am start 5 days a week, sail every single arvo - paradise.

Agreed with M_A.
Geraldton work force is quite depleted from the FIFO tradies so finding permanent employment based in Geraldton shouldn't be too hard to find.
A lot of Companies are subbing out to mine sites too so the opportunity to travel to site exists.
But for consistent windy sailing days Gero would be the pick of the spots.

That would be my main goal Mark, a job like what you describe. My job was like that here in Adelaide, knock off at 7-3.30pm, get to sail every arvo. We get good seabreezes at our local, but theres just nothing to do, its just choppy bay sailing most of the time, and once in a blue moon when everything aligns on the weekend you can travel a few hours somewhere where theres actually smallish waves .
I started sailing a few years ago and Its become a big part of my life when
I think about it now. So Its going to play a factor in where I want to move to.
Fifo would be tough, as its always going to be the best days you will miss (Murphy's law) but if i was in a pinch I would do it
Geraldton, and buy some small size sails. When I lived there from 1993 to 2001, it got to the point where I wouldn't bother going out unless I could use something less than a 4.5m2 sail.
The only downside is that if you want some nice still days for going to the beach with family or non-sailors, they are few and far between.
Mate you wanna get into the FIFO, Im a sparky in the mines and my roster is week on week off, or week on week of sailing, best life style, feel sorry for the 9-5ers who turn up after work as the wind is starting to drop.

Are you from Gero? My mates from SA is doing the FIFO, hes on a 16 on , 8 off roster. Thats prob extreme though i guess, 16 days straight would do me head in.
Hey dude, One good option which we done for a few years was to get yourself a cheap caravan and set it up at sunset caravan park, I saw they are currently advertising for more long term tenants. Around 150 a week I think, no electricity, someone else cleans the showers and best of all you are right on what I reckon is the best wavesailing beach in Australia (when theres swell), there is also a few drive in out minesites fairly close to gero with your skills.
