Hello Everyone!
How many people sailing Formula in Perth? Im getting a new formula gear soon.
Any races coming soon in Perth?
Cheers
Yes there is, not sure on the organisation. PM scarrgo, or Snides8, they will have the data for you.
Other than that show up at Peli Point on Wednesday afternoons/evening and there are races organises as part of WWA.
Your timing could be pretty good. I know that one guy from WA came to the Formula Nationals last year (at NSW) and managed to get all the Formula guys back in WA motivated to dust off the gear....
I'm sure they will reply to this soon, but great to see you getting involved...Cheers
Can someone give me some rules and specs??!?!?! I'm keen but need to know what the specs and rules are. I've been chasing info but every write up gets very technical. Simple course and gear explanation would be great.
Tom i know that the boards are limited to 1m wide, fins to 70cm long and sails up to 12m. The courses are upwind starts with broad reaches. Probably three laps triangle sausage triangle.
I will be organising some racing out of Koombana Bay Sailing Club down here at their March Long weekend regatta. There will be two races on sat and sun and one on the monday morning. We only need 5 starters to have our own class. i have a old 9m you can have if ya want it. I see you have been using your 7.8m on ur FW board. You will find that to point high enough and sail deep enough you will need to have a big sail. i use a 11m and now after some time on it i can be comfortable in winds up to 15-18knts anything stronger and my 8.5m works great. I hope this helps.![]()
I will be going back over east for the national again this year so will be trying to get out as much as i can in the next few months. If you see me out say hi. I might also have to organise some group sails after Xmas so we can all do some tuning.
I will try and put the Bunbury event in my diary Bender, sounds good.
Anyone else keen on the nationals???
In short Tom
1 board per event can be registered, max width 1005mm, min weight 8.5 kg
Boards can only be production boards with ISAF logo
Max 3 fins per event, max 700mm below board
Max 3 sails per event, max size for men 12.5 m, max internal boom length 3010mm
Sean Friday arvos sounds like a good plan for some social racing.
Thanks everyone for some info in regards to Formula in WA.
It means we can have some races this summer.
Any Formula Gear for Sale?
Thanks
Formula Racing is a box rule for the gear.
1 board, 3fins, 3 sails is the maximum gear allowed.
We have a division called "Free Formula", which allows you to use any gear that can get you around a short course. (up-wind/down-wind, about a 10min race).
then we have the "open" division, which is the same course, just more laps, targeting 15 min races....Maximum of 5 races per day....We run most of the racing from a small plastic boat, and sometimes rotate the starter from the competitors.
There is lots of really good value and excellent equipment available on seabreeze, just type in the key word "formula"
www.downunderpro.com is the web site for the Aussie Nationals...Well worth the effort of coming over, even if it is just to get involved and have a holiday. merry xmas
Please keep WWA posted on any racing that is organised as we are trying to get more support out of YWA for windsurfing. If we can show people are keen to race then we have more fire power when trying to gain access to coaches, boats and other assets YWA have.
It is great to see races being reborn.
Thanks Brett, Bender and Adam. The in short is what I am after
.
Are there wind range restrictions for events like the nationals? Max or Min Knots to start. That way I've got some indication what I need to be set up for.
