Have you ever hand coloured a 5 minute video? Takes a bloody long time...

In such a short period of time windsurfing has been supplanted by darksiders at Melville

There is a significant step down in quality from Thomas's work to my quick shoot!

The beginner has quite a few bruises today after Sunday - but will get the hang of it in the end! The footage is also v helpful to see where I'm going wrong.

From looking at the video I'd give the following feedback:

- try and stand up straight rather then leaning in
- ignore the back foot strap for the time being and instead place your back foot into the middle of the board, this will give you a more stable ride, from the video it looks like you sometimes standing too far on the rail
- your sail is potentially too far back. I know the people with Slingshot boards say "put it all the way back" but I found the Severne Alien can sometimes benefit from having the mast a couple of CMs further forward. So make sure you play around with it by moving the mast a CM backwards or forwards and see it make things easier.- time on the water... if you are are a proficient windsurfer the progress is quite fast.

thanks for the tips, it was quite gusty and I'm struggling to shake the windsurfing habit of leaning out and back when the gusts hit, but will focus on being more upright as you suggest. I was not in the back strap but may well have had my foot too near the rail. I was finding it hard to keep the foil in the water in the gusts and so perhaps the mast a cm further forward and also the back foot further forward would help to me keep it down. Appreciate the advice, am having fun learning!

Sheeting put a bit can help keeping the foil from breeching. Better thought to load up the front foot more and shift weight forward which is opposite to windsurfing.

i find if you can easily water start the sail is on the upper end of the wind range. You can play a bit with the way you rig the sail. Little down haul for lower wind range, extension 2-6 cams higher then recommended. Once you get to the upper wind range rig it more like you would for nor
al wave sailing... ie recommended downhaul and outhaul.

although I found outhaul seems to make less of a difference then downhaul.
