Hi guys my brother and I are coming over to WA from the east coast for a wavesailing trip in December for 2 weeks and are just wondering where we should go. We are torn on going south to Margert river or north to geraldton and lancelin and if the forecast would turn on we could drive the 10 plus hours to gnaraloo.
Any suggestions would be great. Will
Be living out of a van so can be flexible on where we go.
Cheers tommy.
December is usually good for sea breezes, but obviously is influenced by regional weather patterns at the time.
Gnaraloo is not at it's best in December. Lancelin and Geraldton and south coast yes. If you are flexible wait until you get here, examine the forecasts and go north or south depending on what they indicate.
You'd be hard pressed to beat Geradton in December IMO if you are looking to maximise water time.
Move up the coast at your leisure, Lano, Greenhead etc are all worth a go.
AB...
IMHO
If you want to sail every day head to Geraldton, keep your eye on the forecast and head to Gnaraloo if it's on.
Perth -> Gero 4.5 hours
Gero -> Gnaraloo 8 hours
If you want potentially epic conditions, but less consistent wind then head to Margaret river and cross your fingers.
Perth -> Margarets 3 hours
Or go to Esperance for some of the most beautiful beaches around
Perth -> Esperance 8 hours
Oh, and remember Gnaraloo and Maragarets have the potential of destroying all your gear in one wipe out ![]()
Thanks for all the info. We would prob be after trying to sail as much as we can. Will make the call when we arrive and prob head to Geraldton. Thanks again and stinging to get over
