Ever wondered what it was the removes fins and skin in the Mandurah estuary?

This and many other rocks are out there just waiting to relieve you of A)your fin, B) the back of your board and / or C)the ability to move and /or breathe.
BEWARE sailing/kiting in the estuary, particularly at other than high tides. Around this rock are many others. If you are catapulted/ land from a boost you may well hit one and
the image below shows that this rock is about 300mm above the bottom. Just because there is enough water to sail/ kite there may be very little above this and other rocks.
This is in the middle of the area speed sailers use

Thanks for the photos Evets, much appreciated.

I hit some rocks mid-gybe at Pt Walter a couple of months ago, and landed safely in the water. When I looked around me I could see that I was very lucky not to have broken my neck

It's a bit hard to tell from those photos, but is that rock cluster to the south or the north of the outside PVC markers? ie, is this part of the suicidal "inside run", or part of the more sedate outside "Classic Hardies run"?

gggeh that fin was only a 22cm!! Scary
And was Joe's home made new fin too!
Like Hardie said we should pass some time and do a scanning of the area on low tide..
I am surprised the back of the fin went off and the front! There is no insert at the front! Was there an insert at the back? Means if the screw still on the fin, the screw went through the board!

Seriously Hardie its time to get some new boardshorts.
How old are that pair - 3, 4 years ... or older??

PS, check with Richiefish, he can probably run you up a nice pair in yellow with red polka dots

evets/hardie,
did you happen to notice if the rocks are loose and if so, if they are of a managable size to possibly move???
perhaps a super low tide visual survey, could flag the real problem ones and maybe a busy bee (mandurah mob ) can try and remove the problem ones......................
to deeper water where they can continue to grow and lead peaceful lives without being subjected to visious attacks by fiberglass weilding, speed sailing, humans???......

The rocks are part of the limestone base which is the Mandurah estuary, it's all one big piece of rock with a random sprinkling of sand, weed and f'ken crabs

Yep the screw went right thru the board, hopefully I've fixed it now.
I'm reglassing the fin itself, do you want to rebox it?
