Along the lines of the Hugely sucessful Avalon Amature Wave event, we plan to run a similar event at Wedge.
Being a small beach break we know we are more likely to get some rideable waves!
We will have a number of coaches both on and off the water to help you with gear tuning and technique!
We will set up about 1.5kms north of the Wedge settlement. With the new road head north past Lancelin and turn left down the wedge road. Make your way onto the beach and head north until you see the windsurfing flags. I believe most 2WD cars will make it dude to the compact sand and the heavy amount of traffic.
(If you do get bogged rig up sail down wind until you find us and we will pull you out!!!)
If we have good conditions and enough willing participants we will be running an expression session based comp for those who choose to enter, and will combine it with some peer judging to train up new wave judges for the coming season!
Any questions please call Alex on: 0413969679
Do you mean the new Indian Ocean Drive north of Lancelin?
How far up is the turnoff to Wedge?
I didn't notice it on the way to Cervantes last weekend.
Anita I don't think it is particularly well-signposted.
From memory the turn-off is around 48 clicks North of Lano.
Is this a competition or a sort of wave clinic? Just wondering if it would be a good venue for a Pellie Point plonker to pick up a few tips? Or is it for those who are past the finely tuned chicken gybe?
clinic for those who want help.
Will also run an expression session for the guys who want it.
it would be a good spot to start!
remember it is WWA members only for insurance reasons. Your can join online at www.windsurfingwa.org.au with paypal.
I hope all the new events WWA are running this year will give more people an incentive to join up!
Its a great place to learn some basic wave techniques.no real strong currents and the waves break quiet far out with a gradual build up.Not like Scarborough or other metro beaches.
The reforms on the inside are agreat for your first bottom/tops
Take some small sails as it can get pretty windy there!
Wind does not look too promising for Sunday. If the event is canned will it be posted here on the morning?
ive got the day off so i rekon i'll be there anyway. for a SUP, surf or kite even.
i dont trust a seabreeze graph at all. ever.
you get local wind effects up that way so usually a couple of knots more.
I usually have my 8 year old on Sundays, so if it doesnt come up, I might make the most of my time with him. Will keep my options open though! Fingers crossed.
I'm going to jump at this great idea, eventually - but only if its windy.
Too hard to justify otherwise, especially this one being a 5 hour round trip on family time, plus sailing time.
It will induce me to sign up to the windsurfing association though, as I'll being trying not to be left out if it IS windy.
The Event is now cancelled.
Partly weather, partly me now having stitches in my head so cant go in water etc...
Maybe it will be rescheduled. time will tell.
Hey sorry to hear that. Thanks very much for making the effort to organise this. I'll keep an eye out for the next one.
