Finally after a long search, from china to india and all points in between I gave up and decided to make them myself, screw 'em. Had some interesting interpretations of what barrel nuts should look like too. (square?!?)

A few bolts from bunnings and a parting tool, what can go wrong? Apart from the drill press falling on me

Are you taking orders?
How much Pepe?

Doesn't look too hard to bolt the press to the lathe

Would you like me to test it out while you're away???

Just hold off for a day or so Decrep, Elmo's going to get in contact with "the Craw".
Hopefully I won't need to risk life and limb.

You can buy them from BUNNINGS
They are dowel joiners.

But are they brass or stainless???

I've seen plenty of ordinary steel ones around.

That's right, the whole idea of using the brass barrel nut (cross dowel) instead of a stainless one, is so the thread on the brass will strip before the bolts get pulled through the board if you happen to hit something. It's easier to replace a barrel nut than it is to try and re-attach the back of your board, or the fin box which has just been ripped out.
But, then again, maybe not.
