I always thought that replacing the busted zipper on my Flying Objects board bag would be too costly. Whilst looking for a new bag upwards of $200 my better half suggested I try this place which is where she sends cushions for zipper repair. Took it in and 2 days and $60 later, good as gold. Really happy with the price and finish. So this is a free plug to Foam Sales, 82 Norma Rd, Myaree.
That is a good tip!,
I recently got a foam mattress custom cut, from this foam shop for my van and a cover made up for it as well.
Service was excellent and price ok.
I didn't know they would take on board bag zipper repairs
Would be interesting to know if they used a marine grade zipper and slider? or more like a cushion zipper
In comparison the flat rate for the board bag zipper replacement in my workshop is $85 (chunky marine grade zipper and plastic slider)
The price is always boarder line if customers want the new zipper put in / or buy a new bag.
But yes , thumbs up for the service in that shop
$60 or even $85 for a zipper replacement seems to be worth while if you have a good quality bag. These days good bags will easily cost in excess of $300 especially if they are double or tripples. Sadly the zippers usually found in new bags don't reflect the high price. Without fail the replacement zippers I have seen almost always are far better then what was there before.
Or, do as I did and go to Spotlight, buy a couple metres of their largest spec zipper for $15 or whatever it was, and spend a few quiet weeknights in front of the tv hand sewing it in. Good as gold! although I'd probably sooner pay someone to do it...
Hey Jesper, I would have sent to you but didn't realise you did that type of work. I've attached an image of the zipper. I did ask for a heavy duty zip but not sure on its anti-corrosion capability.
Mark this was an FO bag. Once one of the teeth failed it was basically cactus.
Hi jesper.get on to a company called Paskal and get water proof zips similar to zip lock bags A1. I recomend also they do magnetic pvc coated zip also recommend.
No 10 marine spiral zips are ok but generally come with nickel sliders which corrode very quickly when wet.slider easy to replace and zip last years if kept from seizing.
Marine chunky zips with plastic sliders will degrade with uv .once one tooth gone whole zip needs replacing.
Most zips wholesale for $2 /metre and a board bag in my shop takes 20 min.
Zippers on board bags should be abolished forever.Every type and every brand will fail before the material has even started to fade.Unless your prepared to lube ya zips on a regular basis they will fk up
Velcro has to be the way to go!
$60 is a tad on the expensive side.
We used to charge $40-$45.
Metal Coil Zips on board bags never work.
V10 Vislon YKK are the best way to go.
I believe K1 Sails still does board bag repairs
