It's that time of year...cold and miserable, with very little or gusty wind on the west coast.

So here's the rub...where do you go for a good, reasonably priced windsurfing holiday at this time of year?

I am interested in hearing of places to go (in Oz and overseas) where there's reasonable conditions for an intermediate flatwater sailor.

Any sensible suggestions?

come up to dampier, Onlsow thevenard island area. I've been working on a boat up here for the past 3wks and its been blowing for nearly all of them days. Lots of whitecaps today. Plenty of flat water conditions around the coast.

Otherwise greece, plently of lovely spots and windy conditions with rental centres. I think you find it pretty cheap at the moment according to news reports.

Mauritius is close and awesome..book though UK company and save some dollars

I would have said Cocos Island but you would be sharing it with quite a lot of "boat people"....

I'm not sure how the locals are coping - the ratio of local to refugee would be getting close to one for one unless they are being shipped out elsewhere.

Great place to escape the winter and enjoy the watersports otherwise....

We had a good time last year at Kurramine beach North Queensland, Bowen and Yepoon looked promising as well.
It does attract a few oldies though.

Thanks guys...

Was considering COcos, but the extra drop ins might crowd it out. Hence the posting.

I spent a holiday in Bowen and Yepoon (like 9 years ago) and it wasn't very windy and could only windsurf a couple of days with a big board and big sail... I must say though it was DECEMBER... not sure how is it at this time of the year.
Nevertheless the area is beautiful and Bowen is popular for having plentiful delicious mangoes... the owner of the caravan park would give us 4 or 5 everyday for free!.

In general, I spent 2 years in Queensland (mainly Brisbane) and whereas it is a gorgeous place, the windsurf experience was not too positive, at least if you look for windy days above 18knots, as they don't happen very frequently.

Hey Borgy...I definitely want to do Cocos next year...perhaps we could organise a PSS trip? Would liked to have gone this year, but I'm off to the Telo Islands (off Sumatra) on 12/7 for a surfing hol....hmmm...warm water...noice.

Noumea New Caledonia - Monday 1st October 2012 to Sunday 14 October 2012

Return airfares via Sydney are around $1200 - 1400.

Rooms at Le Surf hotel - 117 pnight for double bed - 1500.

Only question how much for board hire and do you have to book in advance or just turn up?

Best I can find is a 1230AUD ticket to Noumea via Sydney leaving 1 Oct and returning 14 Oct.

Have tried a number of combinations on Flight Centre and it appears any other days are longer flights and more expensive (dunno how that works????)

Accomodation at Le Surf for 117AUD a night

One of the old threads had a guy saying he paid $100 aud a day for gear hire. another said 60 aud for 2.5 hrs.

Might go to a travel agent and see what offers they have.

Green Island FNQ
Get a 7 day boat pass for I think $150 and stay each night in a Cairns backpacker joint. If you don't want to drag your gear over just hire it on the island, all good new gear.

A video I've posted a few times...
