Hi all
Yesterday just as I was going to carry my gear down the beach at Crazies, South Beach Car park a Fremantle Council employee started asking me about what windsurfers need at South Beach.
You would have noticed the realignment of the cycle path and the associated exposed sand etc.
Now apparently they want to close the northern access to CY O'Connor beach, the bit next to the fence erected by the developers where we all carried our gear down. That would mean to access the beach you would have to walk your gear approx 70m down the cycle path and then use the path heading back in a NW direction to the beach or you have to launch from the northern side of the groyne off South Beach and sail around the groyne, which especially on your way back in can be a bit tricky.
He encouraged me/us to voice our opinion to Freo Council, saying that as users of the beach our opinion and needs should be taken into consideration.
There is alot of politics involved here as Freo residents will know e.g. the development is actually on Cockburn council land but Freo is getting all the impact of the development parking, park usage etc. So please if you can spare a few minutes go to www.freofocus.com.au "Council" "tell us what you think" and write a few lines telling them that the northern access to CY O'Connor beach must be kept and should be wide enough for windsurfing gear, kayaks etc.
Thanks![]()
Yep, I can see a lot of new plantings on that sandhill getting trampled next winter. A wide enough path to the nthn end of the beach would be sensible. I've emailed to the ^^^ weblink. We should all do this (and judging by the rollup at Crazies yesterday, if everyone did that this week, they'd get 40 plus emails?).
Email sent also..... I mentioned we opposed the Coogee development as their groynes could adversely affect the Crazies' sandbank and we were ignored by DPI... so any council restricting access to Pt Catherine will have a fight on their hands. They won't believe that last bit unless everybody emails!!!!
