I was there the other day with a honking easterly blowing and it was flat as. Anyone sailed there?
Back when I learned and lived at Shelley, and some other sailors lived across the river at Salter Point, it was grom central. Any windy day was about 10 out.
The school also taught there.
Memories.........
Cut feet on shells, black mud, smelly water, submerged jetty pylons. Awesome ![]()
yeh it's not a bad spot sailed there once on my big gear
but i used to race on a jd there when i was younger
a few good obstacles to hurt your self on
lots of banks to hop off on but they are hard to find until you have a bit of local knowledge
very gusty and shifty but hey it works
best on a seabreaze though
grew up in shelley/rossmoyne area and me and all the local groms would sail everyday there was wind.
3 spots worth trying
from shelley sailing club on SW
in aquinas bay when strong easterlies blow
opposite mount henry bridge on SW
Back then we loved it..........ah the memories. We all had bike trolleys to transport the gear and Storm 8s were the go back in the 80s.
I do remember lots of sailing days that were fantastic but then I weighed about 50kg???????
