Hi !!

I have been taking my 6yo daughter to the pond in Safety Bay to learn windsurfing since last year, and always thought it would so much more exciting for her if there were more kids her age doing the same... She likes it, but sometimes she feels she is the only kid doing windsurfing in the whole world

I have been inviting friends and neighbours to join us, but because I only have gear for one kid we always need to take turns and it becomes more of a random event than a routine.

So I thought to try here if case there are any parents in a similar situation, with their own gear and similar kids age, and who would like to meet at SB to teach their kids and let them sail together.

There seem to be a few kids learning at Melville Beach on any warm light-seabreezy afternoon. There were at least 4 or 5 today (my 9yo included).

I'm pretty keen to get the young fella down to Safety Bay some day soon, but on the other hand Melville Beach is pretty ideal for kids too.

I am wanting to get my kids down there too, i am a long time sailor at Safety Bay and i'm sure my kids would enjoy learning with others around as well as having a play in between. When do you usually go?

During the year, if conditions are good and not too cold, we would go on Saturdays (luckily wet-suits are affordable nowadays!).
Indeed Xmas holidays more often, this week we'll probably be there 2 or 3 times before I go back to work next Monday.

I guess it can all change to a more frequently basis if they make a group of friends and get excited to get together sailing (that would be nice).

PM me and I can keep you in the loop

Thanks Gary,

I'll ask my daughter (6yo) if she wants to go today.... You know at this age their willingness to practice fluctuates a bit.

Was down at SB today with the kids.
Finally persuaded them down. He had a go for about 15 mins before losring interest. He can get going but doesnt quite see the point of it all at the moment. A few more kids would be just the ticket.
we usually try to get down on a sat or a sunday around 11.00
. 10 would be better but its like herdings cats...It has ro be one of the most perfect places on the planet to teach kids...

I'm taking my young fella down to the pond each day after school this week.
He usually lasts about 30min before interest starts waning.

Yes, she wasn't very keen to go ... it's a bit tricky at this age as she prefers to play with her friends doing the natural things 6 year olds do. I usually just ask once, I think if I insisted it she could go from "not keen" to "I hate it", so I'm not pushy.

I will try next Sat....

Thats a smart approach.
I told him I was going anyway on my own after he said he wanted to just stay home
He tried for aboit 15 mins then just splashed around with the board. He had fun....
I always try to.make it a fun time with no pressure. When he wants to stop he stops. It is suppped to be for leisure after all....

Last weekend we had 4 little trackers enjoying the Pond and I will be heading down again this Saturday from 12 noon for some more practice.

With the freestyle event on I am sure the kids will get a buzz watching the amazing moves that can be done by the freestyle care.??
