I'm heading down towards Albany\Walpole to take advantage of the swell coming through later this week. Does anybody knw if I'm likely to get much company on the water?

Possibly not much company on the ocean (apart from many kitesurfers from out of town) but likely on other side of Albany harbour near yacht club (flat water sailing). I'm possibly the only windsurfer who sails in the ocean off Middleton Beach at Albany (there were around ten kitesurfers out last Sat), though there's no rideable waves in the area. Unfortunately I'm heading over to Walpole tomorrow with family but won't be taking windsurf gear, only sea kayak. Only sailing at Walpole is on the inlet, Coalmine Beach best in E wind and possibly SW which is forecast for Fri. I've heard that Lights Beach at Denmark picks up a good rideable swell in an easterly.

Prevailing easterly sea breezes on south coast have been pretty regular since before Xmas but pattern doesn't look promising over the next week. Best chance for a sail in easterly would be this Sat with 15-20kt forecast, swell 3-5m decreasing.

My folks live down there so I go down a fair bit, not that great for wavesailing. Well if it is I haven't found anywhere. You can sail Princess Royal harbour on the prevailing SE. I've tried sailing Middelton beach but it's normally really onshore. I'd like to check out Nanurup one day, that could be an option. But your best place is Denmark - multiple wave sailing spots there - especially if u have a 4wd.

Nanarup is probably as good as it gets with the right gear and a 4wd vehicle to get to the end of the bay that best suits the wind direction on the day.

When ever I've taken my gear down I've struggled due to it generally being Easter - bit late in the season - and not having a floaty enough board for what seems to be fairly "gutless" wind that time of the year so I don't bother taking up the room any more....

thanks for the tips. Except for one of the westerly fronts the stars didn't really align but there's definitely massive potential and I'll be heading back down there soon I reckon. Saturday was huuuuuge near Denmark - spent an hour waiting on the bech before a gust came through at the same time as a gap in the sets. Got one big wave but didn't get a chance of getting back out again
