Was heading back by boat from a days windsurfing at Rotto Sunday arvo. It was really windy; high 20's at least, and the sea was horrendously rough and confused. We were just thinking there was no way we'd like to be sailing out here, when lo and behold, about 1/3 of the way from Rotto, there's three blokes windsurfing over!
It looked quite a bit bit nastier out there than when I last did the crossing and the third guy looked to be struggling. We saw him fall at least twice, and the other two went back to him.
My questions: who were they? Did they get there Ok? Did they sail back again? ...and, are they farking mad to attempt that crossing in that much wind!!???
Anyway, good on ya if you are all OK.
For anyone considering doing this by the way, let me just say that the mad seas in Gage Roads make the back of Lancelin look like Pelican Point!
I did notice it was shorter sharper chop than usual but stuff-all swell so thought it was not too bad a day for such a crossing?
Certainly when they ran the rotto return comp years ago there was plenty of times it was that windy
I think you would have made it alright Mark -- even without your fin !!! ![]()
Stay away from the reef next time.....
don't think they will try again any time soon
didn't see the guy but there was a kit on the beach at tompsons bay sunday arvo
around 5 pm
with with a nice big hole in bottom panel of sail
maybe his mates sailed back and left him to get the ferry?
yer i know the boys who went.
I believe a harness hook was also broken on the trip.
All made it back safe and sound :) before dark.....just!
