hi, was curious if anyone has any ideas for a wavesailing. there is the obvious choice of maui but wondering if there is anywhere else cheaper to get to with consistant wind and waves betwwen july & augest.
Ive been to Mauritius in October before on a Jem Hall clinic at Le Morne.
It's a great spot for a holiday - particularly from the west coast. I think you can fly direct from perth to Mauritius and the season is pretty much the opposite to WA but the tack is the same with wind from the left.
Stayed at the resort which was very lush and convenient but reasonably expensive. I think you can rent local houses if you are looking for a cheaper trip.
Food is great with a mix between french and indian with loads of fresh fruit and fish predominating.
In terms of windsurfing there's a big lagoon with waves and channels on the outside.
Manawa and little reef were great waves and one eye is obviously something else but the hire centre won't let you take gear to one eye. Jem Hall was certainly an enthusiastic coach and there was a lot of good people on the clinic from all over the world. I'm about 75kgs and if taking my own gear would go for a 4.5 and 5.5 with a 104 freewave and a 80L wave board.
In terms of wind we had it pretty good and the days it wasn't blowing the surf was world class as well. The hire centre seemed pretty happy to run you out in the boat or if you're keen you can paddle out. Lots of snorkelling/fishing/diving/hiking other activities as well. I went with a windsurfing girlfriend so that was sorted but the resort in particular seemed pretty good for the people with families.
Definately planning another trip and would consider emigrating if I could get a job!
