at this stage windguru has good conditions for this weekend down around portsea so i was wondering if anyone was keen for some waves? ive surfed down there before and i know there is a big wind shadow out from the slc building but checking out google earth it looks like there is an area between the two car parks (one at london bridge) where this wouldnt be such a problem.
does anyone know of any other alternatives for waves around this area that would be good in a nw?

Hey mate
about a month ago I sailed Gunnammatta on a Northerly and that was really good. Hard work to get out becasue of the wind shadow from the cliffs but so clean and fast on the wave..
On a NW that place would be perfect cross shore and would be not many surfers.

London bridge is a bit rocky and sheltered from a cliff on a NW

The only other option I know is good is St Andrews.

I would do it on a full tide and small swell or prepare for loosing ALOT of gear!!!
I am in QLD this weekend or else I would be up for it!
hope it happens for you

Hey Al,

If you decide againt the waves I'm going down to Sorrento with a group of friends (non windsurfers) this weekend. I'll try to sneak a sail at Rye on Saturday - forecast looks good at this stage.

hmmm it is hard to decide. the forecasts are all over the place... joel i thought gunna was a beach break so it wouldnt be that hard on gear?? i was thinking if the wind goes more westerly wouldnt 13th beach be ok?

fletch i could be up for rye but it depends on how the forecasts go. where's the best spot to sail from there?

Hi Al
I would be heading down that way to but off to the snow on the weekend.

Ka222 is right, St Andrews is your best option, easy rigging plus no sand dunes and no wind shadows. But as soon as that coast gets a bit of west wind in it, it goes up 3 feet and starts to max out . Gunna has a bit of my kit because of this.

If it stays west go to flinders or if the swell picks up head for point leo. You have to swim your kit out but its the best direction.

If goes NW and the swell is 6+ on the open beaches there is a spot, with plenty of surfers but no windsurfers further down the bay that has a sucky peaky wave on a sharp reef that is heaps of fun.

good luck and dont let the surfers give you ****.

Dont listen to Fletch, he likes flat water!
I think the waves scare him a little...
Hahaha naaah its cool Fletch, you might get waves at Green Pt one day.... hahahaha

Gunnamatta is a beach break, but one of the heaviest in Aus! not much fun being stuck on the inside with windsurf gear.

Best option if you can be botherd with the drive is Sandy Point on a NW is sick and no shorebreak so easy sailing. needs a big swell though. Hope it happens.

And Fletch good luck on those flakas
