Gday all
first the BAD NEWS-
a very vigilant (we often use other language to describe him but trying to play the ball not the man) transport SA officer has taken to fining wavesailors on the south coast for not wearing PFDs in the surf; see below

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/South-Australia/Expert-Wavesailor-gets-booked-for-not-wearing-PFD/

Legendary SA 60+ yo wave sailor Harry gets fined, takes to wearing a pfd and gets smashed in the shorebreaking, breaking his neck because he couldnt dive under the wave. Good news is its a wing off a vertebrae only?!, no spinal chord damage and should make a full recovery. see below

I understand VICCOs got this law overturned?? if anyone can help here with their experience in changing regs, much appreciated. its in EVERYONEs interest to check their local regs - SA was changed in june 2010 without consultation/notice. i think due teabaggers.

GOOD NEWS
its been smoking down here, super SA september firing right up on cue, sailing pretty much every day of the last week. Days lost only for being TOO windy.
see

and vid below by local gun photog Dave Lane; shameless plug/selfpromotion here- except for Timmys long nosed dinosaur, gear is mostly SA origin; severne sails, OES 2013 proto, yes i may be the fat dude with the baboon butt harness - about halfway thru vid- riding super comapct new 7ft 3 95L meth. if you are fat - get one. you will lose weight. then get an 85.

Maybe you should ask if he (SA Transport) is going to hand out any fines at the local surf life saving clubs when the clubbies take out there surf boats, boards, skis and rubber duckies. Once they get into the fight and claim that wearing floatation devices in breaking surf is dangerous there might be more public backing for this law to overruled.
If not, then there might be grounds for preduducial behaviour and the fines could be refunded or the transport department taken to court.

Sadly for Harry we don't have the US legal system otherwise he could now sue transport SA for damages.

Just shows how hopeless this law is and like so many other state laws in our wonderful country only seem to have one purpose: to raise state revenue.

I hope Harry makes a quick and full recovery!

To be consistent ......
perhaps PDFs should be worn by triathletes in open water conditions.

...... haven't these 'officers' got better things to do with their time?

I dont know why transport officers are are interested in wavesailors....we are not commuting to and from work...or creating a traffic menace.
