Been searching the forum a bit on this subject, but couldn't find too much.
Anyone tried wave sailing in Salmon Bay in a SE breeze
Looks good this weekend...![]()
Well I wave sail at rotto quite often and I'm sure others do too however I've never had anyone else there when ive been out sailing so kinda too bad if someone thinks im letting the cat outta the bag. Rotto is one of the most awesome places to wave sail near Perth. Stark bay in a SW is cross off and always 5+ knots stronger than Perth, strickland bay is cross maybe a bit onshore in a SE, ESE being a bit better. Rotto is not really the kind of place which is ever going to get crowded in my opinion cause firstly it's still not really accessible without your own boat and is a crap trip across unless you have like a 35 ft boat (unfortunately mine is a bit to small) and secondly it's not for that faint hearted. Stark bay only really works with 3+ mtr swell. Breaks on 1 foot reef which is sharp as **** and kinda makes gnaraloo look like a wave for pussies even on low tide. Stark is not a long wave but great for powered up big air off the peak as it breaks which you just dont get anywhere else that i remember sailing. You just don't want to fck it up. Strickland bay is also quite a quick wave. Need a bit less swell to get waves and the left hander closes out at the end and you end up on reef shortly after. Freak set waves come through all the time if its 3+ mtrs and you can easily get smashed up on the inside.
