Hi Guy's,

It is looking good for a sail this coming Saturday morning (as long as Laurie does not change his mind ), so I will be down at Dutchies (WA) by no later than 10am.

So if you are keen I will have the new 76 & 81 Starboard Quads for crew to try out, along with the new Severne S1 and Blades.

See ya there

Cheers

Marco

One of the best things about living this far away from the city is theirs never a crowded spot with plenty of room for everyone.

The downside is your never able to rock up to your local and demo the latest gear. Free of charge. (unless you trash it i spose ).

Get down there fella's and get out there. Oppurtunity is a wonderful thing..

Here are some photos of the 71.
Sorry about the poor quality. I lost my good camera in a SUP wipeout and these photos were taken just before a hail storm hit so the sky was dark and lighting was poor. The flash wouldnt work on the camera.
Anyway... get out there and get a look at the Quad range because they are going off

I'm taking it by the greenrooms pic that the convertible quad is a rounded pin and the dedicated quad is a swallow tail like the twin from last year?
Mine should be half way across the Nullarbor by now, I'm super keen to get it in the water... bring it on!

I thought they change the volume number so its easier to tell what year it is?
70, 75, 80 one year and 71, 76, 81 the next.
Thats what they did with the Starboard Fish.
75, 85, 95 one year then 76, 86, 96 and they even did 77, 87, 97 the year after.

The 66 and the 71 have the rounded tail and then the higher volumes have the swallow tail.

how did it go?

early planing?
looseness?
drive?
slide vs throwing buckets action?
how did it feel riding a wider board?

Did you try any of the other sizes?

zachary. they will do bl00dy 65's and stuff cos of all the skinny 18 y/o pro's sailing at Pozo and so on.... miss a big market (pardon the pun) with the larger boards, a lot of ranges stop at 85-90L.
FSW's are great if you're a big fella but they just aren't right down the line in real waves

Questions, questions, questions
This was the first time I used it and didnt have the other volumes to compare it with, just the 70 Evo.
Just to set the scene. Got to the beach at first light Saturday morning and rigged the 5m Rock, which I realised was too big before I even got on the water, so went back up the hill and rigged the 4m Rock. Very windy most of the time with only a few lulls.
As soon as I stepped on the board it planned and before I had even got out the back I instantly knew that this was going to be a sick board. I kept looking down at it just to see what board I was on. It felt so alive. Real skatey.
If I was on my 70 Evo it would have had too much lift and the nose of the board would have been all over the shop. The 71 Quad stayed flatter on the water and as Rider5 had said it was as simple as point and shoot. I found it went upwind really, really well. At 68kgs its definately a better board for me in stronger winds than using the 70 Evo.
On the wave it was super, super loose. Again comparing it to the 70 Evo I found that where ever I looked and wanted to go, it went. Not saying that the 70 Evo couldnt do it, it was just the style I developed from riding it the last few years. Usually I have a long drawn out bottom turn and dont get as vertical as I would like to, but this time I was finding myself on the best part of the wave all the time, not out on the shoulder. This prooved to be the case because I pulled off about 4 off the lip aerials which is way more than I would do normally in a couple of good sessions alone. It also maintained stacks of speed throughout the whole wave, even so that a few times I fell off going too fast. Im such a kook hehehe.
Sliding the tail and throwing buckets went off Reflex. I can only imagine what you are going to do on the 81 Quad. I use to love sliding out the tail of the 70 Evo but this was way more fun. Bringing it back around for more off the lip action was easy too.
The little extra width to me didnt make any difference. The 70 Evo is 55 wide and the Quad is 55.5 wide.
Im so happy with this board and I cant wait to put a single fin on it. Get the best of both worlds.
If you love the Evo you are going to love the Quad.

Greeny - Thanks for posting your impressions -I Have seen you getting above the lip at Mettams - so its good to get a perspective from a rider that can throw down a good surfing line / aerial.

I cant wait to try one!

People who sail with me or have seen me sail know my style. Alot like surfing. Kinda flow like surfing with drawn out bottom turns and back around off the top. Getting verticle was always my goal but found I usually ended up in the wrong spot. Timing I guess is criticle to get off the lip. But the other day on the 71 Quad I found I was BAM! smacking the wave where I wanted to. Bottom turns were tighter, with heaps of drive and no speed loss. The way the 71 Quad rode for me was exactly what it has been said it should do. Ive read the reviews but have never read or seen any brochures. I was waiting for the new Evo to come out and didnt even realise that the Quad was going to replace it. Its a convertable though. For me thats a winner. Im sure everybody wants to hear that? You would want to know if it rode like an iSonic wouldnt you? But it doesnt. So if you want a board that does what its made to do then you will have no problems with the 71 Quad. Its already got me frothing for more and I reckon its gonna ride sick as a single fin. Imagine that? A convertable board. Two boards in one. Sounds bloody awesome to me
Here is a video of me on the 70 Evo.
Enjoy

I don't normally respond to this type of post, but what is wrong with Greeny being enthusiastic about a new board???? It is unfortunate that his opinions have been responded to with such typical bloody ozzy cynicism...........
Have a crack on the board and if you still think he is biased, post your thoughts and then speak with some authority, by the way, I've got a JP 84 twinser...................
