Anyone used one of these in the waves.
I'm thinking of getting one soley because I like the pretty graphics. I've heard that the 08 board is alot more straight liney than the previous models. I'm after a 90L. Anyone got any experience of one in the waves?

If you cant ride a 2008 Kombat in the surf there is little hope for you on any board...
for a real review of the Kombat - go here:http://www.star-board.com/2008/pages/news/news.php?readmore=362
The 87 i rode in hawaii was indistinguishable in wave performance from a dedicated aggressive wave board
Scotty was throwing huge aerials at hookipa on this board as well.
With the GLOWING reviews i think there is some real evidence to support this board's awesome performance claims
and it looks good too!
I tested a load of 2008 waveboards on a holiday last year and the 08 Kombat 87 was my least favourite of all those in the freestyle-wave category and by a fair margin. Most of my sailing companions thought the same.
If you want a wave-orientated FSW I would recommend the Goya One, Quatro FSW or maybe the Tabou 3S or RRD FSW.
Ahh the RRD FSW, i've heard some good stuff about that.
Thanks guys for all your inputs.
I was at Gerro's last year and some of the guys let me try their boards. I rode an 07 Kombat (89 litres i think), an acid and Mistral synchro (both round the 90 Ltr mark)
I ws surprised how easy I found the Kombat to sail compared to the other boards. And the differences were huge.
We were testing against several of the other large manufacturers offerings which we "aquired " for the day for testing purposes. Many just did not turn - and some (inclusding the markets best seller by sales volume) flat out could not be bottom turned - while the kombat was indistinguishable from a dedicated waveboard.
Many intermediate users will rate this style of boards by their planing ease and speed - which is important - but you need to combine that with turning - which many intermeditate sailors cant do yet.. hence reviews in the past have often rewarded fast crossover boards with little mention of their turnability and freestyle ability - which is a critical performance criteria.
The best selling cross over board for 2006 - 7 simply would not bottom turn - so the market is getting the wrong message somehow...
