Thumbs Up

Met Ben Severne at his Melbourne appearance at Zu and asked him for suggestions on rigging my 5.3 S1 (2010).

I have a 4.0, and 4.5 from 2009 which are great but the 5.3 always felt a bit un weildy and twitchy. The center of power would move around and it would get back handy when over powered.

Ben said he rigs his so the leech is loose to half way between the mast and leech between the top two battons (where the blue circle is). I had only been going in 1/3 of the way.

(pinched this image off the Severne web site, its of the 2011 S1)

He said the outhaul should result in the sail just touching the boom arm when powered up, this was on his severne line of booms. I am on a x9 and my sail was well off the boom.

Rigged as per Ben's suggestions the next time I went out and what a difference!! A lot more stable and power is a bit lower down now. Was a good sail before but perfect now.

Looks like I didn't have enought down haul which moved the power up and too much outhaul which didn't let the sail breath in the gusts.

Just goes to show you are never to old to learn something new.

Derek
