Hi,
Ben Severne , and Severne Crew,
I met you recently in Maui, Kanaha, we discussed purchasing prototypes,
I' recently acquired a used 2011 S1 4.7 from a friend and I'm amazed at the low end on this sail, and the feel on the wave is incredible, unlike any other sail, and I get to try quite a few from the other brands. Quick to plane, stability, on off power invisible on the wave, just amazing really.

I'm looking to maximize my light wind wave sailing, (yes Maui has sometimes light wind, usually right when massive swell is hitting) and I want to get a larger size S1.

My question is with the redesign to 4 battens, and the focus on wave performance and landing moves, will the 2013 have the same magic feel that I'm sensing in the 2011?
Does the new sail still have the wonderful high/forward pull point, which I think is responsible for the early planing? Head area seems to be larger compared to other sails, and leach is more tight also when in a light wind rig shape.

I seem to be planing off super early for a 4.7, currently using this in as low as 20 knots whitecaps visible. So wondering which size to shoot for for the biggest sail also, 5.3 or 5.7.? My weight is 90 kg Board is custom single fin @ 62.5 cm width 240 cm length fast rocker. Target wind range is 12-20 knts, large period swell to 20 ft.
These waves are fast so a quick to plane board and sail is needed.
My perception is that the high tension flat foil pumps onto a plane faster than a fuller sail, like the blade, and the fuller sails seem to be sticky to the water in a light wind rig shape.

Thanks,
Chuck

You might get more help with this if you post it in the "General" or "Gear Reveiws" section.

Blades 2011/12 very sweet, as ive just realised even sweeter with the SEVERNE masts

Chucky from the US of A You crew are renowned around the world as haven the biggest and the best so lash out yank tank , and purchase the 5.3 and the 5.7 and even if you only use one, more than the other, it will look the part hanging out the back of that loaded pick up down at Hookipa beach park

Mr King,
Good on ya for welcoming me to the forum with assie whups aussie style sarcasm and wit! I always enjoy the sense of humor here. While we do have the biggest and the baddest it usually refers to our nukesubs and our stealth fighters, and our porno, that's what we make in the USA these days. You guys make the best sails though.
Be a mate and help me get my questions answered, and I'll buy you a pint next trip over.

I have been using s1's for 6 yrs and they just get better and better. Your summery is spot on i would agree with everything you have said. I doubted going to the new 13 model would work any better but guess what they are even better. So light so easy. Simply amazing. i tried the 13 blade and no way near as good in my opinion. Severe is one clever dude!

Mark,
You drive a hard bargain, but Sounds like a fair deal. I'll get them right over, a word of warning though, keep the porno peeper away from your misses, has a tendency to inflate their expectations,
C

sando,
thanks for your feedback, much as i expected, I had a 10, and now an 11 and I see a continuing improvement in the sails, so 13 it is!
