WA Premier still pushing the 'virtues' of the port.

Mr Barnett says he expects to have discussions with the Federal Government about what projects they are considering cutting back or delaying.

He says some WA transport projects, especially the interchange and roads around Perth airport, would be one option as they could be delayed for a year or two without much of an impact.

But the sinking of the rail line in the Perth CBD and the Oakajee port and rail network would go ahead, he said.

That sucks - just back from WA roadtrip - spot x is an awesome place and the port will ruin corros too :(

Let's hope the iron ore lasts for ages, coz the place will be a piece of **** after the port messes it up

Do Gero windsurfers get compensation for loss of recreational facilities? Jaeger could claim loss of income from destroyed training facilities....

Mr Barnett has already spent $300 million of taxpayers money on another of his legacy's. While Wind, kite, surfers, fisherman and all recreation minded people applaud him for keeping it the way it is (expecially consultants kindling the dream/scam)one would have to ask would this money be better spent on education, hospitals or even law and order? or planting 1 tree.
If no money had been spent Oajagee, would look as it does now "the same".
It does concern me that if he spends twice as much of our money ,what will we get 600,000,000 x 0 =?
It does seem an expensive exersise to have a dream and then pay consulltants and public servants to try and jusify it, no matter how outrages the idea was to start with!
An observers view would be the two main mines being used to justify decelopment in this region have major problems, One has iron ore mixed with Asbestos and no water and the other has no water but is trying to steal water of local farmers !

Have you got a source for that claim? I would be interested to know more about it. I have heard it come up in discussion before and quickly fobbed off.

When Kallis wanted to farm Tuna in Esperance the state government ordered that before this could happen. Kallis had to complete a study/identify ALL spieces of animals, algae, seagrass bio organisims, dolphoins, seals fish etc etc and catalouge all of this information and the effects Tuna Farming would have on these species. Then hand over this info to the DEP. The cost of this would of been huge to do over the 200km square Re'searach Archiepelego that is the coast of Esperance.
Hence no Tuna Farming in Esperance.

Has Oakagee been made to do a simalar study on the marine wildlife that habbitat the Geraldton Coast. You could even argue the effects could extend out to the Abrolhis Is. (In regaurd to marine life, not sand drift)

Just highlighting what has happened elsewhere in the state.
