Hi guys,
Newbie in Sydney/manly here.
I have two questions regarding wavesailing:
1. Where would you suggest going on sunday 15/3, with forecast saying 20 knots southerly ? Have read the nsw wavesailers spotguide, maybe collaroy?
2. Anyone have a tip of a instructor who would give lesson in wavesailing to an orherwise internediate experienced windsurfer?
Any replies greatly appreciated, thanks!
Sunday there should be a few at Long Reef & plenty of kiters in the mix/way. It is X-on & should be ok if you are intermediate.
The shorebreak can get tricky on a lower tide. Collaroy sail off Fisherman's beach aka Brownwater.
Brownwater - southerly you can sail out to the (Long Reef) point. There can be a wind shadow 1/2 way out off White Rock but
the run out is normally ok if 15 knots or more. A few runs upwind and you are in a small bay & it's sideshore and actually an
easy spot to sail.
You can also launch further down off Collaroy beach and you only have a bit of a shore dump to deal with.
I sail off Manly Cove if the surf is too wild or I'm time limited. Park (if you can) at the very end of East Espl.
For lessons contact Justin at windsurfingreligion.com.
Thanks for taking time and giving that comprehensive answer! Much appreciated! Looking forward to trying the australian waves at last.
No worries.
Next time if you have a location enquiry post in the NSW section as you'll probably get more responses.
Botany Bay is also pretty open in a southerly, bit more of a trip obviously if you're on the Manly side.
Sail at Kyeemagh just past the airport. When the swell is big and more east there can be some waves
rolling through into Botany Bay and sail out from La Perouse.
Sunday the swell looks small-medium so Longy should be the go.
