It’s amazing to think that after a cold, long and windless winter, we are only one week away from the opening event of the 2010-11 NSW Wavesailing Association Series. A lot of effort has been put into making this the best year yet and we’re all looking forward to getting the green flag up for the first heat!

The 2010-11 NSWWA Series is proudly and generously sponsored by Neil Pryde - thanks Neil Pryde, it makes a massive difference to our Association. Also adding a significant amount of time, product and assistance are the ever dependable and supportive WindSurfnSnow crew, who will be at every event of the series. Dirty Dog and AskHuey are also providing some excellent prizes for individual events. More sponsors will be confirmed later in the series.

Last year we had a record number of new Amateurs, Juniors and Women - if you’ve ever been tempted to try competition sailing this is the year! Ultimately, NSWWA provides a safe, friendly and competitive environment whilst making sure we have fun! If you have not competed before, please keep an eye out on Seabreeze to make sure you head to the correct beach. There will be a BBQ on Saturday night in Gerroa, and you can often find people in Gerroa Fishos having a beer on the Friday.

As this is the first event of the season we need to get every competitor signed up, t-shirts allocated (for season members) and heats drawn. Therefore can you all please aim to get the competition site between 9:00 and 10:00. Sign on for the competition closes at 10:30 sharp. Again this may change if an early morning Southerly/Westerly is forecast. We also have some great hoodies to buy so bring some cash!

Finally, we have some amazing plans lined up for this year which will only be available to NSWWA competitors at the events. We’ll let WindSurfnSnow explain more in a future posting....

How much fun was Wanda today!? Good logo high sets and cranking 25 knots later in the afternoon. I almost packed up and went home at 12:00!

It also looked like a lot of the Sydney based NSWWA members were getting in some last minute sailing, tuning etc. A fair few people I spoke to were suffering from lack of windsurf fitness!

There was a great vibe today and everyone is super keen for the Illawarra comp!! Lets hope for similar conditions!

Let's not... At least not what we had this morning. On last count 3 houses lost their roofs and quite a few more lost tiles. Power is out from Kiama right down to Berry and the road to the Heads looks like war zone.

That said, the long range forecast for next weekend looks pretty favorable for Port Kembla.

those pictures you took were crazy, it was impossible to tell where the wind was coming from. I'd rather another yesterday than a today where I was fighting to control a 4.7!

Still looks to early to call the forecaste but I will post the event registration location on Thursday night and again Friday morning. At the moment there looks to be a strong westerly for Friday which could mean a sail at the comp venue for a few early birds.

The cars / vans will be packed full of kit anyway from WINSURFnSNOW so come and have a look at what 2011 is offering

Cheers

Tim,

With uncertainty about where the comp will be held on Saturday, is it still worth booking accomodation in Gerroa?

Thanks

Jonathon, NSWWA has booked a large house in Gerroa for the social on Saturday night. The first comp of the season always had a good social aspect as we catch up with people coming out of hibernation.

So, if you fancy a beer or two (or soft drink) then it's probably worth staying in Gerroa.

There should also be a bit of SUP and surf action if the winds are light Saturday arvo.

Cheers

Hi All

With a South Westerly forecasted for Saturday morning, we will be heading to Port Kembla 9-1030am for registration. Details on the exact location can be found above.

The wind is forecasted to die fast so lets get down early and rigged to hit the water in time to make the mos of any wind there is.

The Sunday forecast has a lot of promise with a sunny day and Nor'easter forecasted so hopefully Gerroa will deliver. BRING IT ON

Best regards

Jason

Just drove past PK on the way home from work, cranking! Not much swell about though, maybe 2ft sets max.

Yeah sailed Gerroa for about 30 mins maxed on a 5.4. I saw a couple of shoulder high freaks sets come in. Not sure where they came from and I certainly was anywhere near them. Sadly the wind died as quickly as it came in.

It's currently howling at around 30knts... Naturally... It started as soon as the sun had set.

Thinking about hitting the water first thing at sunrise tomorrow morning.

What a great day, long, but we had a full competition - from the first breath of wind to the last. Started with the ladies, juniors and groms and the last heat of the day was the Masters Final about 4:30pm (and a few of us sailed Sat arvo as well) Yeah it was a bit light but great conditions that forced good technique and the set waves from the South were clean and often in the 3' range with a few overhead.

Everyone sailed and competited in at least 2 rounds and a few people had more than enough. Great to see all the new faces, 2nd year returns and the experienced die hards. Anne from WindsurfnSnow had some very nice JP's to try out - those new fins look a bit straight but the big Freestyle Wave I tried was really turny.

Most of the results were worked out on the day but I have judges bag full of scoresheets (and sand) to do a check so results up soon - be patient I'm back to work monday! There may be some shots too as there were some fancy camera's on the beach - hopefully someone got Dan's 8' floating aerial!

Cheers to everyone on the day who helped out without hestitation - great to see newbies having a go at judging under the careful guidance of the more experienced and there were more offers to help pack up than there was gear to pack up.

BBQ went off (pretty the rugby didn't), gourmet rolls from Adrien's bakery, secret marinated chicken, super salads, ice cream from the kids and even an extra case of the medicinal alcohol to wash it down.

T shirts look great and so do the hoodies - if anyone missed out on a T shirt we'll have them and the hoodies at the next event. Woopi! Woolgoolga.

The 3 day long weekend event has always delivered some great sailing. Watch out for the rego locations as the actual sites can be a little tricky to find if you haven't been there before.

See you all in a few weeks

sure did:

(NOTE: Apologies for the crappy quality. For some reason this web site insist on recomposing every single photo you upload. Had enough... new web site for my shots and wind reports coming in the next couple of days)
