Hi everyone,
We realise that people have to make plans for the next event.
After lots of consultation with various local experts, the Judges and considering all the boxes that need to be ticked for a location the location for the next event will be on the beach at The Entrance. depending on the seabreeze (NE) direction we can hopefully find an ideal spot along North Entrance beach - more likely Pellos which I belive is at the end of Pelican Beac rd (correct me if I'm wrong Jimmy Wind). If the wind is Sth, SW then we will head to Toowoon Bay.
As always check the nswwavesailing.org website for the latest updates.
If you are thinking of camping then check out the Caravan/Camping park at Toowoon Bay - really nice. If you have lots of money you can stay at Kim's resort. Otherwise try The Entrance township itself as there should be lots of options.
Cheers

Hey Tim,
Pelo is at the end of Pelican Beach Rd. No rigging area and a fair walk to the beach. A great surfing spot in NE but the locals can be aggressive. May need to post a guard in the car park!
We also sail at a spot at the end of Curtis Parade. Limited parking and rigging area but only a short walk to the beach. Gets any swell that is around so great in small conditions. No issues with surfers at this spot.
Toowoon Bay if south. Waves on the point in big southerly swells and in the bay. Best waves are when swell is from NE and then southerly hits.
Birdie beach is another option. Excellent grass rigging area. No issues with surfers. Works in NE winds. Usually a wave for jumping. Do have to pay $ to enter park.![]()
northsail is right about pellos , park there at your own risk. lots of surfers in Ne wind, a mates car got broken into there last season.
Sounds awesome. Is the sailing there any good? I always thought if the wind has any west in it towoon is stuffed?
SE/S/SW can be sailed. Any west in it and inside corner of bay tends to be a no go area. Still OK on the point.
MA and Northsail are spot on... Locals at Pelos are fairly set in their ways and a comp may leave a bad taste in their mouths for future local wavesailors sailing there (not unlike a lot of spots on the east coast but due to the fact it's a good/only option for decent surfing in NE wind). I think this should be considered. Good on ya's for running the comp in the area. North Entrance should be ballistic jumping and waveriding if wind is on.
pelos can be very good. but risky
there are heaps of spots on the central but a lot can be tricky for a comp.
toowoon could be difficult i would think?? flags ect. and dans correct it can be a bit on and off. there are other options maybe??
entrance further down like northsail suggested, or burdi, more cross shore than entrance(where i sail).
it will be good having a central coast comp again, they can't all be down south.....though it is easier
Good input. We had asked some local Central Coast sailors who suggested Pelos. It now doesn't sound like a good option for a number of reasons.
I was at Toowoon on the weekend - it looks tricky to set up a comp there.
Birdie looks a good set up.
We're super keen to get a comp in the Central Coast so hopefully we can get a good solution.
If toowoon is not an option, there is always caves.
Mind you if it's a realy big then toowoon is really the only option.
NE- birdi, north entrance
S- caves
W- I will be at birubi wether or not there is a comp up there
! There will be no wave sailing anywhere else on the cc.
I know there is going to be others with different opinions but we have to think realistically about actually getting through a comp with varying abilities.
Toowoon should be ok for set up. In a good southerly very few people are on the beach. (apart from kiters)Flags are not an issue as you sail the point if you want waves.
You can drop gear at the boat ramp and then park in the top carpark if busy. Showers/toilets and some rigging area all add to the spot.
If some of you cashed up Sydney siders stay at Kims camp you can book the front cabins and we can use it for the judges!![]()
No other option in a Southery.![]()
Thanks everyone, good suggestions.
We had not heard about any of the issues you have raised about Pello's before. Of course the aim is not to descend on a spot and piss everyone off.
Ok I'll have a chat with the judges as we have to get spots organised.
Cheers everyone.
Tim
don't panic everyone.....
Yep - the spot next to Curtis pde is one area we thought we could compete. Thanks North Sail
I have sailed Birdie beach years ago and remember it working well in a NE. And its not that far further ....
Thanks for the suggestions.
Tim
i'm not totally against pelos tim, great spot and when the wind is fully on the surfers normally depart. but the comments above are valid.
so the entrance could be better. it's a lot like the shoalhaven heads, back side wave riding and decent jumps.
Yea we sail toowoon bay in any southerly, toowoon would be a great place to hold a event. and we sail foresters beach in a NE. Pelos is a great place in a NE and I've never had a prob with the car park. It's bad at night or late avo but there will be a lot of people around anyway which would stop any theft There are a lot of beach access between pelos and north entrance which are also good and have enough parking and easy access to the beach. Would be easy to get wind, waves and no surfers. Its a long beach.
Getting super excited about having one in my back yard.
Never had any dramas at pellos, surfers will almost always only be on one bank and there is usally at least 3.If its actually windy there wont be any. There is plenty of parking which i have also never had a problem with and i sail there more than anyone. Plenty of room to rig in the dunes which is usally what i do. If you run it at the entrance like has been mentioned here already you have sooooo many options.Call it on the day. Birdy is an onshore washing machine and half as strong as the entrance. You can aslo ride the south end of the Enny in front of the lake entrance in a S-SW and is DTL can be fun when Toowoon is not working.
Maybe should consider terrigal lagoon it has.
- big grass rigging area
- plenty of parking
- Close to the coffee shops for those who like to latte
- works in any direction
- Easy launch
Just have to watch out for the local SUPers can be very agressive and often been none to wave there paddles in anger.
the times i have sailed pelos there are a number of surfers around when the wind is light then as it increases they slowly depart... like anywhere.
problem for a comp you want to get in early, get established and start the rounds. i think we should call NE at the north entrance. if we see fit to move it to pelos due to strong forecast, lack of of surfers ect maybe move it up there? but once the call is made can't really relocate easily.
biurdi can be good all swell wind dependent, but probably gets more than most. but lets forget it and stick to one location.
i have sailed quite a few other places up there in a southerly now but i'm not going to disclose them, it's just best all you coasties keep sailing toowoon.![]()
we just got first winter swell, has been mast high+ for three days and forcast to stay that way for the next 4 weeks. Life is good.
We've booked into the campsite at Toowoon Bay Caravan park. The colemans and Juretics has 3 sites next to eachother if anyone wants to tag on with us try and grab a site either side (the folk on reception will search by surname to locate us)
