Just wondering how many seasons (wavesailing) you get out of your mast before you decide to replace them (before they break)? I've had a set of Ezzy RDMs for a few seasons now which have taken, I guess, an averege beating from waves and crashed loops etc. If sailing in just shore break I suppose you could sail them until they break but know doubt when you're a kilometre or so offshore you would kick yourself for not spending the money sooner. Are there less than obvious signs to look for in your mast that it is on it's lasts legs? I have snapped about 4 masts in my time (none were RDMs & luckily I was close to shore on all occasions) and on at least 2 occassions they simultaneously snapped in 2 places.

Replace RDM's only when broken or you are changing sail brands.
I've still got my first rdm from 2006 and no way in hell will I simply replace it for the sake of it.
The good masts hang in there. When u find one keep it!

I still have the only 2 RDM masts I bought 10 years ago. A 400 and 430.
Both are always kept in a bag and both have had the absolute shiz beaten out of them.
Many many times have I surfaced from a hideous wipe out expecting to see my mast in several pieces.

I think I read on the Ezzy website where Dave Ezzy addressed the same question. As I recall he said - unless you are sailing at the gorge don't worry about it.

Edit - Ezzy masts obviously.
