Small HSM Spider. Wet vs dry weight.,
Interesting thought is the sail will only remain fully soaked for a brief period, once into the wind using drip dry and the wind the fully soaked weight doesn't remain that long.
Soaked the sail had increased by 22oz, .6 kg
within almost no time and just draining the difference was 8oz , .2 kg.
Doing a waterstart or uphaul with a larger sail the weight would increase proportionally to size.
Reference to claims that certain sails don't absorb as much water as others.
previous tests by MIT, wet vs dry footstraps found a 2.2 oz wet ( heavier) than dry.
Times 3 footstraps , = 6.6 oz , 0.187 kg, near the same as a sail drying in the wind. .2 kg.
near impossible to keep footstraps dry, sail better odds.
Conclusion :
1. Don't sweat the small stuff.
2. Near everything above is small.
