Hey guys just wondering if anyone has my problem. When i drop in on a downwind wave my brain and feet seem to be more comfortable going upwind mabe its programmed like this from surfing days???I feel more comfortable with my back to the wave????Seems most down the line wave riding your body is facing the wave.
When i catch a wave straight down the line i feel as if i want to sheet completely out to neutral (almost like mid jibe ) to sit on the section? Is this A bad habit? Has anyone else had to invert there natural stance and thought pattern from surfing to accommodate?Whats even weirder is when i ride a skateboard im normal but as soon as im on a wave im goofy????

Any tips?

Hi,
I have The very same problem. Being goofy becomes even worse after years of snowboarding this way. I have huge problems when waves are for regulars, upwind ability is ok for me. I have a plan to switch stance while snowboarding, skating. I have heard that training balance on the opposite leg also helps. I would be very happy to get some quick win directions.

Can you carve gybe on both tacks (port/starboard)? If you can, then you should be able to do front side wave riding on port or starboard tack! I'm regular footed and much better at waveriding and jumping on port.

Ill have to sus that one out zoj. Was talking to one of my surfer mates he said get one of those skateboards with the inverted trucks and start again with the foot positions and just practice your front turns. He said that i should really be able to go both ways on a wave comfortably if need to be and depending on the break..

windsurfing backside looks unco and alot harder.I guess then youll have to turn down wind to keep on the wave.

Like this guys similar to me but when i look he should of charged the wave down the line.So theres no real way of doing it apart from learning normal footed.

MOVE ! To somewhere that has port tack sailing (wind comes from the left when heading out)

#! Down the wind windsurfer vs goofy kite-surfer and surfer . ( have balls but who's ripping it )I dont even think you can go backside wavesail on a kite either surfers are getting away with it.?Lots of surfer ride that way.??? downwind' front-side No room for goofy bad habbits downwind.Reprogram-me is needed! Might see Ben Wilson at the camp of bad habbits aswel.

Could also be wind direction not suitable for down the line, such as the last vid u posted out of the three, when i say not suitable i mean not as easy.
Classic cross off wind makes going down the line easy, cross on much harder to go down the line and keep your speed
