Hi all,
Might be relocating down the south coast soon, wondering what size gear would be best to get into some waves at gerroa. Was thinking one board and two sails as I have a bunch of other gear for flat water/ bump and jump. Been sailing for six or seven years so my skills are ok, gybing and tack ok most of the time. I weigh just under 90 kegs. Will get second hand gear as there is a good chance it will get trashed, but will get reasonably modern gear. Was thinking something like a 105L wave board and 5 and 5.7 wave sail....
Any thoughts.
Thanks
Ps, don't have much wave sailing experience, have sailed out the back at gerroa a couple of times
Corkers,
Firstly good move, Around 100L(you might soon want something smaller on the big days) will be a good start as there is quite a lot of wobble and ride days to be had at Gerroa. As for sails if you are after just 2 I'd go for a 5.4 and 4.7(I use a 5.4 & 5.0 a lot at 95kgs, There's also been lots of 4.7 days), They would cover most of our conditions. The power benefit you get from something bigger then a 5.4 soon gets lost on the wave when you want to be able to maneuver the sail with ease.
I'm sure there'll be heaps if suggestions, Just make sure it's a 100L "wave board" if that's what you decide on.
Jase.
Thanks jh,
Definitely will get a dedicated wave board. I know there are a few different types of wave boards but know nothing about them, anything I need to stay away from , from the beginner wave sailer point of view.
( I have a small fsw I use for blasting/ speed)
