GWC will be holding an event at Coronation Beach on the weekend of March 10/11 (conditions permitting). It will be open to all GWC and WWA full members and will be run in a different format than normal, incorporating both a "Mambo style" competition and a formally judged final for more serious sailors.

Here is how we envision it will work -

First part of comp will be the more relaxed "Mambo style" component. For those of you unfamiliar with this format it basically allows competitors to sail when they want over an extended time period and to be scored by unknown judges who will also be out sailing. Divisions will be Elite, Open, Masters and Womens. The best sailors from each division will go through to a formally judged final. There will be prizes for each division winner and an overall "Spirit of Coro" prize for the competitor who most 'get's into it' over the weekend - social included.
The duration of mambo format and finals will be decided based on the forecast closer to the event.

BBQ and refreshments will be available on the day and a scaffold judging/spectator platform will be erected on the reef. A Saturday night function is in the planning phase but will be big!

Updates will be posted on this thread as the event draws closer. Final event times will be based on March 8th weather forcast. Ideally we would like to run the entire event on the Saturday. Please register your interest here so we get an indication of numbers to help planning.

Sounds awesome, Coros can go off in March, big swells, down the line and stunt ramps, I will be there. Can you join GWC, WWA on the day if you don't have membership yet?

Competitors can sign up on the day. However the committee recommends that you become a member of either GWC or WWA before the event to make sure insurance requirements are met. PM me for a GWC membership form.

Sounds awesome and a big thumbs up for the guys at GWC for taking this on.

Just to clarify about membership and entry.
Members of GWC, WWA, SBWC will be able to enter on the day but it really helps with organisation if you can at least register your interest here or on windsurfingwa.org.au (log in first) for WWA members.

You will not be able to become a member on the day. You can join via windsurfingwa.org.au straight away with a ccard or paypal account or download the membership form and EFT a payment or contact the GWC guys and join them.
You need to have joined by March 8th end of day or you will not be able to take part.
This has to be the situation otherwise our insurance for the event is not valid. Thanks for your cooperation with this. Please do not ask to join on the day.

With less than 2 weeks to go, the last event on the 2012 WWA circuit is shaping up nicely. All approvals are in place, prizes have been allocated and a party has been organised for Saturday night. With winds in the Mid West still blowing at around 35 knts there is more than a good chance that Coro will be firing!

All council conditions have been met and a BBQ is on for the duration of the event. Bottled water will be available for contestants and music will be set up to provide a festival vibe.

Geraldton Beach Hotel has donated $500 prize money for the Elite division, GSpot has put up a Simmer Blacktip for the Opens, Geraldton Surf n Sail has supplied an Ezzy sail for Masters and Brighteyes Sunglasses has donated a gift voucher for the Womens and Sun City Pest Control a prize for the Mambo part of the event. Severne has also donated give away prizes for the event.

Local sailor and guitarist Ian Rushton's band, Lost for Words, will be playing at the GBH on Saturday night. The gig will be on even if conditions don't co-operate for the event. Final event times will be posted on March 8th.

All in all this is looking like a great weekend. Please support it.

Due to the forecast (38 deg. and light wind ), Geraldton Windsurf Club has cancelled the above event at Coronation Beach this weekend. This is regrettable due to the time and effort put into organisation and the GWC committee trusts that no one will be inconvenienced by this action. The party organised for 8pm Saturday night at the Geraldton Beach Hotel is still on. Tickets available at GSpot, Geraldton Surf n Sail or at the door for $10.

A big thank you from WWA for all the work that went in to organising the event.
Such a shame that Huey would not play fair!
Thanks also to the sponsors who backed Geraldton Windsurfing Club in putting this together. Please support them.
