Hi all,
MS already started this topic a couple of months back, so this post is an update.
I took a class 6 group of 30 kids to a perfect little inlet near Brooms Head for a 4 day windsurfing camp.
The gear we got together was 2x One Designs, 1x narrow 11ft rounded bottom thing with no dagger board. We also put fcs plugs into 2x shortish boards 90lts and 1x 9'windsup.
For sails, Matt Stotts had made a 1.8m great little rig, a 2m Aquaglide rig, and I cut down and restitched 4 old donated sails.
The kids were all around 30-50kgs, so the 2 old wave boards were too twitchy for most. The One Designs were old, split, and heavy, so not all that suitable for smaller beginners.
We ended up with 3 1/2 days of perfect 6-12knts of SE around to NE. With that much time and 15minute rotating goes, all of the kids were tacking and gybing by day 3. The lighter kids were nearly planing on the short boards. One kid was pulling off nice helicopter tacks and a duck tack. Ahh to be 11years old again.
On day 5 we went to Flatrock to show the kids the nationals. They were stoked to see some good wavesailing, and all the pro's gear.
The school are going to do some fundraising over the next year to try and get some better, and more gear. Ideally we would be able to get 15 boards on the water, with 20 sails of varying sizes to rig. Light masts and booms would be great.
The fundraising will be a long process to get the $ to inject into really good setups. Until then, it would be fantastic to get hold of any boards around 110-140ltr size, bigger is ok if not too heavy. We can add centre fins to improve non-planing tracking if needed to any board. Any sails in ok condition sub-4mtrs or soft sails to cut down. Delaminated sails are too difficult to cut down and resew effectively. Any tip- broken carbon masts would be good. We have plenty of old heavy alloy booms, but newish lighter ones would be great. Bases are gold, particularly euro-pins.
There is another 2 day camp in 3 weeks, and another 2 longer ones in Feb-March, so any gear you can spare will get used for sure.
I will drive to pick up any gear whenever suits you. The school is in Mullumbimby.
Thanks and kind regards, Mike

Great effort Mike! I'm glad there's a new generation of North Coast windsurfers injected into the scene. Showing them the gun sailors at Flat Rock was a great idea. Plenty of inspiration there.

I have a 320 Mistral Hi-Fly in good condition with fin and centre board. The base mount has been converted to suite Euro pin extensions. Plus a very small and tidy Areon boom too. I'm in South West Rocks if you are- or know someone- heading past this way. You're welcome to have them.

Keep up the great work. Hats off to you.

Cheers,

Phil

If you're in Brisbane let me know.

I have some old kit you can have. Europin base, boom, maybe a small sail as well.

Cheers,
Martin

Perfect Phil, thanks heaps. Please text me your mobile and I'll organise myself or somebody to come and pick it up. Do you have a crack at the rivermouth in a southerly?, that's worth the trip in itself. My number is 0402686241. I have very fond memories of riding my pushy from Lagoon View Caravan Park over to the bay with jump board and sail fully rigged up on the head for great westerly fun. Thanks again, the kids will really appreciate the gear. Cheers, Mike

Great thanks Adam,
We are looking for a good family camping location down south for January, so that might be the earliest I could get down there. Please text 0402686241.

Hi Mike. Ah, the river bar - epic surf spot. Been there a fair bit surfing, but not brave (or skilled) enough to wavesail there yet. Those that have rave about it. And yep, westerlies are still great fun inside Laggers Point. Pity we don't get more of them. And don't forget 15-20 plus nor-easters are pretty sweet there also

Txt sent.

Cheers,

Phil
