This no wind situation on the east coast realy is starting to get very old, everytime i see my new wave board sitting there on the rack with the rest of the boards not getting used, almost brings a tear to my eye, to make things worst the graphs on seabreeze have been completely non-eventful, showing heaps of those green arrows and all that shows up on the day is the red ones.
I know seabreeze get them from the BOM, so who the hell from the BOM make up these forcasts, the way they have been forcasting lately i would say the work experience kid is in charge, but i am pretty sure they don't have a sailor there analysing the up coming wind, anyway i think it's high time the govenment employed someone with a clue to work things out. Thats my 2 cents worth.
No offence to seabreeze, they do a top job..

Our metservice is crap as well - they really have no idea, and they change the forecast regularly, and only get it right (sometimes) just before the weather happens.

What's really surprising is that these guys in the czech republic seem to be right much more often than our local service.. even down to the timing of rain showers.

well today we got a bit of payback, this time the BOM was almost right and the others where way off, today was predicted to be 10 knots from the east and we currently have 30 to 38 knots from the SE.

Bzzt. Sorry, we do add BoM data in the mix, but we don't use the BoM forecasts.

Here's two articles which will help to explain why the forecast isn't always 100%

Thanks Laurie, very informative, Love the end quote, "Or, as we like to say, “The forecast was right, it’s the weather that got it wrong!”.

But i kinda Knew all this from the old days of Freesail magazines, apart from the history bit, i remember they ran a awesome article on weather patterns, maps, how land masses and obsticles effect wind, how seabreezes work, even how to read the cloud formations as they are coming toward your local break.

I do find the local weather report do tend to focus on the rain and sunshine more than the wind (evil people), maybe we need to get onto the t.v stations to give a report on sailing, kiting wind and waves not just a surf report for the surfers.

Well now it's time for me to get on the water, finaly got decent wind after 3 months. woohoo.
