Hi, I am keen to get out in the ocean and muck around on some waves. I have ocean windsurfed before (not much) but not in waves. I have been getting as much sail time on the river over summer as possible. My goal was to master my gybes but that didn't quite happen, (ever so close). I have a freestyle wave board that just floats me and 5.5 and 6.1 NP Fusion sails. Now that summer is coming to an end what are the chances conditions like for doing some ocean practice in the coming months. Last year I waited for storms and went to the river but that was pretty rare that it coincided with the timing of being able to get there. What about other areas like down south or south east, do people tend to head that way for non summer sailing. ? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.![]()
Sorry, I should add that I live in Perth and when I mean south East I mean Esperance .Not sure on down south (margaret river)as I don't know that area to well .
WA? If so Port Beach is the best spot for first time ocean blasting. Nice white sand and blue water makes for a good arvo sail.
There is a small shorey but that shouldn't worry you.
Have fun, once you sail in nice water you wont wanna sail in the stinky river again!

Cheers Spoktek, I used to sail at Leighton quite a bit in my first windsurfing life, it was good. I will try out Port when I go sailing next. I have a kiter mate that lives near there so I might see if I can get him along for a bit of company / backup.
I'm in about your position where i want to start wave sailing more.
The issue i have is that i live in Safety bay so the closest waves are SH and Singleton. I haven't seen many sailors out there but i would like to give that stretch of coast a go, just for the fact i don't want to drive to Leighton or Avalon.
If you want to team up so i don't look so bad
PM me.
