Ok this idea has been kicking around for a while and done before.
The idea is to have a 100% unofficial comp at corro's this summer, run like the mambo comp started, just a fun weekend., maybe a Thursday to Sunday. But you can show up any days you like.
How it would run..
Who ever is keen, rock up at Corro's like a usual sailing weekend.
Get a sticker for your sails to say your in to be judged.
There will be judges on the water but not known to anyone.
No heats, sail when you feel like it..
We could run similar judging as Mambo, like most time on the water, craziest Jumps or best move, best freestyle trick on the inside, allround best sailor., and there will be a men's and women's in each section.
Before you all start and say whats the point when Pro's like Jaeger and Severne will win, we should give those guys handicaps.
Entry will only be to buy the stickers for your sails, but we can organize that bit heaps cheap.. or everyone can have like a big red X on there sails, something easy to spot.. so it's free.
Sunday arvo will be the final tally of point to let everyone know who was sickest on the weekend.. and mabye a case of beer or some dodgy prize for the winners..
Of coarse every arvo and night will be Beers and BBQ at the camping ground for anyone camping there, but everyone should because it will be more fun..
Anyone who thinks this would be an excellent idea voice your opinion and well work out a weekend free from orginized comps..
Remeber this would be a fun weekend nothing serious and winning don't get you to the PWA or anything..
P.C, Sent you a PM.
WWA has a number of dates set aside for wave events this year.
Apart from Greenhead / Margaret River the idea is that these events are open to all abilities. We also hope to have some of the good wavesailors share their knowledge
First is 12/13 Nov for a social wave event at Avalon.(last year 25 odd people came and had fun even though there was almost no wind)
Then 10/11 Dec Wedge or Greenhead
7/8 Jan probably Wedge
21/22 Jan Greenhead (full comp)
4/5 or 11/12 Feb Margaret River (full comp)
10/11 Mar Coronations.
We have the permits for these events and can bring streamers and organisational stuff.
WWA events provide insurance cover for those people organising (always a good idea).
We really need people to get the wave events happening so any of the crew that are interested in helping in any capacity would be great.
Can be helping with judging (on a rotation through the event) or taking equipment to the event or bringing a bbq or just getting the word out to the non-seabreezers out there.
If you can help contact us at
info@windsurfingwa.org.au or send me a PM

Geraldton Windsurf Club AGM venue confirmed. Geraldton Beach Hotel Back Bar, 24th August 6.30pm. All welcome.
Some valid points mark.
I was planning on doing almost exactly what PC was on about but even more informal. It was to be more a "beginners intro to wavesailing"/social sailing event, with some tuition from some top riders, with the possibility of an expression session with a few small prizes, lots of BBQs and drinking :)
Greenhead has been run in Jan because of the event Sponsors request, as his Brands representatives only being in the country or available in Jan.
I'd prefer Nov, but we need all the support form WWA sponsors as we can, so if we have to move it, so be it. We have still had an absolute ball the last few years and great after parties :)
I'm a big fan of moving towards more social wavesailsailing events and intro to wavesailing days, so hopefully down the track we get even more people keen to play on the waves with us at the WWA comps :)
The associations do a great job with current events this is certin, these event would take a lot of work to organise locations sponsors etc,and hats off to the guys giving up there free time to get involved.
But i'm prob like a hell of alot of other guys and get put off from entering most traditional organised comps, prob due to everyone not entering the pro class gets the dodgy conditions, or if you get knocked out in the first heat your weekend of sailing is over, Bertie put in a good effort and did do some AM comps last year but still with organised heats, don't get me wrong some guys love these style of comp..
But the Mambo comp is so successful because it is not a traditional comp, no heats, no one has to sit in the judges tent for 2 days, everyone sails when they want, as much as they want, it's just a hell fun way to run it.
You only really pay an entry fee for the never ending BBQ and cool T-shirts, think there is a bit of insurance in case a kook kiter gets out of control and runs someone down in the carpark.
The kiters have Kitestock every year and is highly successful, why not a windsurfing one, and fun 4 days of wavesailing at a sick spot.
If there is a winner it's for being the best freesailor not for being the best sailor for the 15 minutes you actually get to sail over 2 days and if your not a pro it's usually in the 10 knots and knee high waves..
And on Bertie's idea of the hints from pro's etc, which is all ways encouraged, you actualy get to sail with them which is by far a better way to learn.
Perfectly said PC.
Were coming over from QLD for 6 weeks and would love nothing more than something like this to go ahead either early-mid dec or late Dec/early Jan........
I know there would be atleast 4 of us that would sign up in a second if something like this went ahead.....
Well WWA already has a permit for the water for March 10-11 as Lao Shi mentioned.
So its ON. I guess a permit from the Gero council will need to be applied for.
So Jas are ya keen to step up and gimme a hand running it Mambo style.
We just need to buy some beers and meat and bring up a BBQ that will actually work.
Anyone have connections for sponsorship in the form of beverages, meat, bread??
My preference is to keep it low key and simple, focusing on the coaching and having max fun.
Good to hear crew are keen lock it in....... Dec / Jan is always fun and windy and lots of happy punters..... local support will be avaliable ![]()
but hey march is windy to ![]()
A 4 day permit would be better, more windsurfing madness the better.
Alex if it happens i would be glad to help out. cant really help with the permits and stuff, but setting up, getting to word out and that sort of stuff would be no probs..
asdmuzak

I'm in, sounds like fun!! Can we make it a month long Comp and somehow get the time off work?? Reckon I will get a good result especially on beer stamina over 4 weeks and sailing ability hungover..... Can't wait ![]()
