I was looking to get back into Wavesailing, I was wondering if you guys could help me out witth my queries etc.
How many litres do you need to Wavesail well in the lake and in the surf, and what would be best for beginners?
What should I look for when buying Waveboards?
What should I look for when buying Masts and Sails?
How many sails should I have
What size would be best

Hi, we're a helpful bunch but lately we've had a lot of vague questions such as this from a professional troll
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Troll so to get some decent advice you're going to need to provide more information such as your body weight, where you intend to sail (specifically), your experience and how much time you expect to have to devote to the sport (ie how quickly you will progress). Then we will be able to give you better advice and be sure that you're a legitimate enquirer.
Sorry if this seems rude but I guess it's better than getting no replies and wondering why.

Hi Im aboutt 80kgs, Looking to Sail out of Toronto on Lake Macquarie on nobbys beach in newcastle. can sail formulas and RSXs no trouble, expect to sail on weekends and sometimes during the week.
water dude i sail on lake macquarie 2 . down at sunshine .. my first wave board was a 75l with is 10l more than my body weight .. i could uphaul after a few practices .. ive only just been into nobbies a couple of times now but that board seems to work fine on lake and beach .. on sail size u probly would go anny thing bigger than 6m depending on the size of your board ... and use the masts and boom apropiate for the sails u are planing on getting i use 1 boom and 1 most for a 5m right down to 3.8
Get a 90L board no longer than 250cm. Something of around 58-61cm wide will do the trick for a first wave board.
would i have to water start with a 90litre board and what should i look for when buying a used board?
Also what sail size should i get

lets say u buy a 90l board .. alter a couple of seshion on the lake u would be able to uphaul ... but uphauling is a totaly diferent ball part in the ocean ... obviously buy a board with fins and footstraps .. feel the weight and check on net for the specs of the board .. so ull know if it has taken on anny water ... allboard get lil dings and scratches in the paint work but make sure its only as deep as the paint .. it u can see the fiberglass ...its probly going to slowly take on water if it hasnt allready ... mabey buy a board with 2 back straps ... only use one of them for beach and use the 2 for blasting on the lake .. personal peference on that one ... probly look at anny board from 2000 on wards .. would give u a board that is still in resonable condition for very lil money ..
nothing suitable for what u after .. i have a couple of torn up 5/6m sailworks revs and 120l cave man ( andrew regan boards )..altho .. as soon as i save up some omney i was considering buying a a twinny or quad board around the 60l way // fanatic or goya peferably
althou u should give andrew regan a ring at board crazy . just had a quick look and he has some 2009 2nd hand save sails for $400 dollar mark and an 80l wave board .. .. i buy all my gear thru him .
in high wind condition with excessive chop and swell uphauling will only make you tired.
I is imperative that you can waterstart and know how to upwind waterstart if the wind picks up.
i wouldnt waste my time uphauling it will only make you tried. use the swell to your advantage to get the sail out of the water.

I,ve been in the waves for about a year now. at about 85 kg i use a JP 93L wave board mainly. Can be uphauld if the wind dies and is a great platform for learning in the waves.
if you are to progress to a smaller board, which you will do if you stick to the waves, its still great to have a bigger wave board for the light wind days. i also have a 75L but i usually just grab the bigger board because in marginal conditions you end up getting more waves and having more fun.
to start with i would grab around a 5 to 5.5 m sail, but ideally you will want 2 or more sails for varying conditions. personally 4.7 to 5.8
lots of good wavesailing around the area. i go up that way regularly.
And why did you ever stop wavesailing? its so bloody awsome.
DunkO I don't think he ever did. "Getting back into" it but has no idea about anything. Apparently he is also "getting back into" surfing (on the surf forum) and has no idea what size or type of board to get.
hi mate i grew up sailing around the Toronto area and wavesailed a stack on Nobby's Reef.
For 1 board to suit everything, you should go a freestyle wave board, obviously you can waterstart well, so something around 80 to 90 litres would be perfect for the Lake, there is great chop on the Lake and these board are excellent fun it's an excellent spot to learn to jump well, the wave guys head there if the surf gets out of hand, i've seen some crazy big jumps when the wind smokes down the lake..
A board like this will be ok for Nobby's if it's not to big and the wind is lighter, but it will be a bit harder to ride if the surf is bigger, i found the wave there a bit harder to ride on a board with a wider tail once it starts to gets big as the tail will skip out i bottom turn every now and then, idealy the best board for there would be a 80litre waveboard that planes well as it does get light on the inside...
hey pacman i think its cause mark is a extremely experienced surfer .. he must laugh at noobs like us........
im only into the third year of my 20 year windsurfing aprentiship.before you go wave sailing make sure you are a good swimmer .. e.g can swimm 1000 metres.
dont make the mistake i (noob)did of getting over confident and hanging on to a boat moring for an hour and a half for my life.
This no idea becomes apparent and a real problem when you are in the open seas tryn to keep your head above water to save your life....
make no miss understanding the water has no forgiveness and there is no help

Waterde, you should look at getting a board around 90lt, Taboou pockets are are a perfect board, they are fast and work realy well in the surf, down the line and in on shore waves. There are a few second hand boards around there are also some cheaper 09 boards that you could get a little cheaper.
Ass fpr mast and sails, I use Gaata posions cant beat them in build quality, there are allways some goood bargins around this time of the year as saiilors change over there 09 to 10 gear, if you can afford it get yourself into RDMS, can't go past them.
Look on Seabreeze Buy and Sell yopu will find all the gear you need at great prices.

I would suggest going a littel large, 100 litres or so. I scored a nice JP Freestyle wave which has had me back on the water a lot this year, and takes a Powerbox fin, which is laaarger, gets you planing quicker. It takes a 6.2 nicely. Sure it's not a cross-shore slasher, but do ya want to walk or run ?
