It is my pleasure to announce that the rumours are true, the 2012 Australian Wavesailing National Titles will be held on the Gold Coast from 10th-17th March!

This is an exciting event and will be held as a holding event for the best conditions over three Gold Coast locations. These three locations will be announced very shortly!

Two official judges will be at the event and it will go ahead in a heat format.

Watch this space for upcoming information and official posters and website.

I am amazed that a country this big can have that many laws and regulations regarding beach usage. We must be the most regulated and over governed country in the world. No wonder competitive ocean sports are almost all but dead.

Not really. What about the ironman series, triathlons, yacht races, thundercat races, ocean swims (about 1000 of those every summer), surfing contests (from ASP down to local groms), and every surf lifesaving comp. thats naming a few out of hundreds more.

Perhaps probably more to do with the size of the sport and the backing it has (and we know where windsurfing sits in the pecking order).
It's a pain, but it's necessary. Otherwise I'll just host my Hand Grenade Appreciation Club's demo day at Bondi Beach next weekend.

Anyway, we're all just assuming that the "significant issues" called out have anything to do with the council/beaches.

Agreed. But it's amazing how many council/waterways folk have trouble distinguishing it from general boating (which I encountered from comp planning in the past and had to explain the obvious differences), which isn't surprising given some of their recent stupid rules regarding lifejackets.

Actually the big problem up here is that many of the folk that we need on our side have trouble distinguishing Windsurfing from Kite Surfing. In the past a very small minority of the Kite Surfing fraternity have not endeared themselves with the powers that be, and now all wind sports are suffering from that. Even some of the lifeguards don't get the difference.

As an aside, and without wanting to be negative, if these "significant issues" become insurmountable, can you let the other States know soonest so that we can try our best to host this event in another State?

i also don't mean to sound negative but at six weeks out is it getting a little close. i must make a call with work and imagine others are in a similar position with commitments.

i can only imagine its a huge effort to get something like this to happen so all the best. i'll be watching this space fingers crossed.

Thomas, totally agree, to have an event at Birubi you need permission from four or five different groups - National Parks, Waterways, Local Council, Local Indigenous (original) Land Owners..
