Hi
We need everyone's help to make this work
A few of us are going to put a campaign video together.
The plan is to put together a 2 minute video that explains our views. At the moment the plan is for the video to be mostly stills.
Fletch has volunteered Al to be the creative bloke behind it (not sure if he has told you yet Al.. sorry if he hasn't)
The idea is to build identification with windsurfers and then put together a message about what we want to change. Hopefully people will share it on social media. We might have an event or something to debut the video - maybe drink some beer, raise some funds etc.
The challenge, and I hope this isn't creepy, is to use photos of windsurfers not windsurfing - not many people wear rubber and fly around on lumps of carbon - most people go to weddings, have breakfast in cafes, hang out with their kids, go to school or work, drink wine with their friends, go camping, fishing, 4 wheel driving etc
These are the pictures that we need for the video.
One of the other elements of the campaign is to build identification with doing sports and healthy outside activity so we need pictures of windsurfers doing other sports.
So - sorry to be creepy, please can everyone help out and email three GOOD photos of themselves
a) doing something not windsurfing
b) doing another sport
c) windsurfing in port phillip - any conditions, though feral conditions, women or kids windsurfing or older photos would be helpful for variety

if you're friends with me on Facebook, then please message me the photos on facebook if that is easier.
I don't understand copyright but please send me photos that you took yourself - if Jody took them, then please ask her.
What are we campaigning for?
Is someone closing the beach or are we just trying to get more people into it?
My thoughts ,
PARKS will not be changing the rules for sailboards in a no boating zone, the state will not risk changing a law that is in place to protect persons swimming at the beach. Nothing has changed at Dendy Street, only now we have a greater level of surveillance and enforcement of rules that were already defined in state law.
if you want this Video to work to our ( sailboard ) advantage lets engage with the Life Saving Club and understand each others needs.
What beach users need is a video that helps us with a couple of things,
Promote safe water use, some clarification of the boating laws that apply to sailboards.
Inform swimmers that we do look for you and that we will slow down around you.
Suggested options for sailing on the epic days, define the SW SSW options.
In particular, Slow down on the approach to the beach and in proximity of swimmers, ok so 5knots is not possible but 20knots should not be the default
If you want to sail a sailboard in a no boating zone on a great south westerly get ready to pay the fine, you can be sure that the Dendy Street Icebergers will be onto VICPOL the next time the wind blows from the SW and peaks at 30knots, these guys just want to feel safe when they go for a swim.
My call, its not safe to swim between the poles if we are out in numbers on a SSW SW and sailing in the no boating zone !, option 1 ask the LSC to close the beach on the couple of days a year this happens,
Robbie Swift Dendy Street 2010, thanks Jodi White caps

This is not what this thread is about... but
From the meeting the other night, it emerged that the zone at Dendy had changed - the swimming area used to be marked with a buoy.
The enforcement has definitely changed.
If you read my letter, I am not asking for things to change. I am asking for things to be put back the way they were.
We could make a video about marine safety. It's not actually our role though. Instead, we're going to make a video about how the changes, and they are changes because people don't get as upset as people were last week about things staying the same, have affected our sport.
Re the picture. I was out that day in 2010. It is extremely unusual for so many people to sail Dendy in a SW.... most probably influenced by the fact that Robby Swift was there... Dendy in a SW is not half as good as Dendy in a S.
This thread is about making a video about the changes. If you want to reply to this message on the other thread, then I will read the response and reply there.
I've been sailing Dendy (or Norwood/Kinane St) for almost 18 years. I don't ever recall seeing a buoy. Just the two no boating signs. Where was this buoy? I used to swim there as well (while waiting for the wind to come up).
