any suggestions for comfortable overnight or longer accommodation in the Bell Bouy, Low Head ,East beach area......early to mid March.
yea, there is very little in regards to beachside commercial accommodation (ie none)
ya never know you might find something on airnbn, but if you go that option in georgetown i would recommend sleeping in shifts...
Thanks for frank opinion on demographic grief.......so that means avoid the GTown area entirely.....and leave the locals to there precious.....
Just take plenty of ICE to keep your beers cold, and to throw at the locals.
It will be like watching zombie apocalypse on the last remaining human.
There is some good accomodation at at low head. the pilot station has a number of heritage buildings that are rented, such as the old school house. They also rent the Queenslander and the old lighthouse keepers house under the lighthouse these are great especially if you want to keep an eye on the wind.
In defence of Gtown I think its one of the more relaxed little towns is Tassi, the Hobart crew are just stressed that they cant buy a Dairy Free Ginseng Chai Latte once they get a few Km away from Hobart. The Low Head tourist park is pretty popular and right by the water. The people with camper vans just seem to park them at the beach and don't seem to get problems with council.
Thanks Gillian....we definitely want to keep an eye on the wind :)
Will look up those historic buildings....not certain on how long we will stay but keen to check your district for wind action on our way around.
hello to Al .... Will send email with some travel details to Planet.
...and oh yes Appleman....your advice is heeded.......ciao!
Ok Al it sounds like Marrawah kind of.....free camp if one doesnt mind roughing it a bit......we only have swb transporter and rv4 tent for some camp options but will prefer solid roof........and have coffee beans so wont miss out on yuppy lattes....have you still got the same email from the LHI days

Yes, a little like Marrawah but the Gtown supermarket is quite good and the local Windsurfing "Gurus" are pretty dodgy.
Pretty sure the email is the same.
When we stayed at Low Head recently, we stayed at the East Beach Tourist Park, they had inexpensive cabins that were very clean, and it was pretty quiet there. Seem to be some permanent residents, who are quiet. (You will recognise it by the large number of chainsaw sculptures outside the front entrance. It's on East Beach, not on the river.)
The supermarket in George Town is fine (apart from being freakishly long and narrow for a Woolies.)
And for the Latte-sippers, there is a Peppers at George Town that should suit. http://www.peppers.com.au/york-cove/
Dylan.
As well as the houses Gil noted - Low Head Solar Caravan Park and Low Head Tourist Park.
Both have cabins. The reviews for the latter are better. It is not as close to East Beach, but that does not mean that it isn't a better location. It is on the river (you can see the wind on the water), and there is every chance that you would not be sailing at East Beach anyway. LHTP is also closer to G'Town and 'looks' significantly more attractive to me. I think it also has a small shop.
As for the Lattes, Greenie and I got one from the LHSCP and it took them 15 minutes to make undrinkable cofee - so they really did put the effort in.

Thank you GC for that concise appraisal....saves time sifting out the best option....and local knowledge is better than internet biased chicanery....
how rare are those Bakers beach conditions .....the photos look enticing.... A bit like a mini Marrawah.....
although the Bell bouy and East beach photos look fun too......but nippy

It is not rare to get good conditions at Bakers, just people usually are lazy to take a bit longer drive and you need a Parks Pass as it is inside the national park. I sailed a fair bit there on my own, and I got skunked only once or twice. Mind you, it needs a quite strong wind forecast, as it is usually 5-10 knots less wind than Bell Buoy. Also, it takes some time to build the swell. For good waves it is probably best if there is a good NW wind before it shifts to WNW or W.
W is cross-off and it can be a bit gusty, but it is probably the best waveriding on the north coast in those conditions. WNW is cross and it can be even good for riding in a NW wind at the point. WSW is too offshore at the point, but it might be good more down the beach, but I never went to check that.
Thanks Jimo,
i hope that local knowledge becomes useful as well, in mid March. One very important reminder in there too....i must get a park pass for Tasmania in general, asap.
